ARLENE HELEN WELCH (nee Moulding), beloved wife of the late Jim Welch, passed away in Cardston, Alberta on Friday, August 19, 2022 at the age of 83.
Arlene was born December 21, 1938 in Calgary, where she was raised. She trained as a nursing assistant in the Canadian Army and was working as a Certified Nursing Aide at Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary when she was introduced to Jimmie Ray Welch by Jim's sister Hazel.
Arlene and Jim became the love of each other's lives and would often visit even with Arlene living in Calgary and Jim running a ranch near Cardston. After being married at Scarboro United Church in Calgary on June 1, 1964, Arlene moved from the city to Jim's ranch which is near the Milk River Ridge east of Cardston. They were married for 50 years and raised four awesome children - James Henry (Lisa) of Glenwood, AB, Kenneth Robert (Elisabeth) of Sigtuna, Sweden, Linda Rae (Dwayne) of Cardston, AB, and William Thomas of Calgary, AB. Jim passed away in 2014 and Arlene remained on the ranch until moving to Lee's Crest in Cardston in 2019 where she lived until her passing.
Arlene had quite the culture shock moving from the big city to ranch life. There was a lot for her to learn and adjust to, but she quickly learned the ropes and loved it. She loved everything from the beautiful view of the Rocky Mountains, to the newborn farm animals, to birdwatching out of her living room window.
Arlene was a long-time fan of Days Of Our Lives and watched it faithfully for about 40 years, after being introduced to the show in the 1980's by her mother. She enjoyed going on Sunday drives with the family when time on the busy farm allowed. She also cooked up the best Sunday morning breakfasts while listening to Musical Memories on the radio. In later years, she relished playing games like Yahtzee, cribbage, and Scrabble with family. She also adored her grandchildren and loved spending time with them and watching them grow up.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be a private family celebration of life at the family farm. She was just the sweetest person and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
