YOUNG PINE
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother and grandmother
Mary Adeline Young Pine - Aa’poyaaki on January 7, 2023, at the age of 81 years surrounded by her loving family. Adeline was born to Mr. & Mrs. Jim and Margaret Young Pine on May 8, 1941, in Cardston, at the Blood Indian Hospital.
Mom leaves behind her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to mourn her passing, Roger (Annette) Young Pine, Claudine (Kelvin) Fox, Geraldine Young Pine, her baby Kelly Young Pine and Cody (Mary) Fox. Her adopted children Laurie Ann Solway, Dee Creighton, Chayla Weasel Head and Ashley Rose Yellow Wings- Day Chief. Her Grandchildren Jace (Montana) Young Pine, Carlos, Shayna (Peter), Levon (Finola), Dini (Darius), Chayton, Brad, Kyle (Amanda), Craig (Maya), Tasha (Robin), Tryce (Mackenzie), Casey Young Pine. Her great grandchildren Tealyn, Tanner, Brynlee, Callie, Conner, Callyn, Darius Jr, Wynn, Tuff, Karter, Kade. Adopted grandson Riley Rabbit. Siblings Genevieve Solway, Stella, Homer, Adolph (Monica), Randy (Lucy) Young Pine, and many extended family and friends too numerous to mention.
Mom was raised in the Bull Horn area and was part of the Aakaipokaks (Many Children’s) Clan. It was here she grew her love for the sport of chuckwagon racing as she practiced and harnessed the chuckwagon team with her late grandfather Joe Young Pine at a young age. She also rode cows and rounded up the cattle. Mom attended and graduated grade twelve from St. Mary’s residential school. While she attended school she participated in basketball and baseball as a back catcher, was a cheerleader, and played the role of Cinderella in a school play. She also participated in the barrel racing event and the steer decorating in the High School rodeos. One of her many highlights in school was when she won a provincial wide essay contest, beating out many participants.
After High school mom left for Edmonton to pursue her nursing aid program. This training enabled her to work in various places such as Seattle Washington, Calgary, and Edmonton, Alberta. Mom returned to home and took time off her nursing career and worked at the plywood factory in Fort Macleod, it was here, years later She worked at the Foothills Detox Centre as a Senior Addictions Counsellor. Most recently she worked as an elder resource person with Kainai Children’s Services. Mom had a passion to work with and help everyone she encountered. She was an active member of the AA Fellowship Program and would have celebrated her 39th year of sobriety on January 27th. She enjoyed attending AA meetings, Annual AA roundups and was often a guest speaker. Mom inspired and encouraged many in their recovery and sobriety. Her highlights included following the World Professional Chuckwagon Races and her favorite Driver was Buddy Bensmiller. She loved watching her grandchildren play hockey, rodeo, and watching the UFC fights with her grandson Tryce. She was always so proud and celebrated her Children and Grandchildren’s accomplishments big and small. She loved crafts, doing her crossword puzzles, nurturing her plants, and collecting sentimental ornaments, especially her Holy Statues. She also loved listening to Country and Gospel Music and loved to dance right to the very end.
Family meant the world to her; she attended the Sundance to support her grandson’s Jace and Tryce. She made sure to make it to as many of her Grandsons hockey games and cheered loudly in the stands. No matter what rain or shine she tried to make it to any event/activity that involved her Children, Grand Children and Great Grandchildren, we could always count on her to be our biggest supporter and cheerleader. She had a very special bond with her two spirited granddaughter and shared her love of dolls and listened to and enjoyed hearing all the stories she shared.
Mom loved to travel, her travels took her to numerous places such as Las Vegas, Nevada. numerous times to watch the INFR, Rapid City, South Dakota to support her son in law. Window Rock Arizona for a rodeo. The Cheyenne Frontier Days with her brother Randy and family. Especially to the Holy Lands which included the Lac St. Ann Pilgrimage and Rome in 2000 to Medjugorie, Guadalupe New Mexico.
Mom was a devout Catholic and was very dedicated to the Holy Rosary, where she modelled her faith and spirituality. She made her Cursillo and later worked at following Cursillo’s, Pilgrimage and Live-Ins as a spiritual leader/elder. Mom was a very kind and humble person; family and friends knew they could count on her prayers and spiritual connection to our Lord and Our Lady of Guadalupe. As she herself was a miracle of faith, living her life to the fullest never to complain, only to leave life’s challenges in the Creator’s hands.
Predeceased by Parents Mr. & Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Young Pine, Annabelle (Max) Big Throat, Virginia, Justin (Noella) Young Pine, Brian Solway, Leo Russell, Elroy, Kelly Young Pine, Odile Day Chief, Theresa Cross Child, Phillip Reeves Tailfeathers, and great granddaughter Brielle Ronda Lynn Twigg. Many extended family members and friends are too numerous to mention.
As we end mom’s life here on earth and continue her journey to the heavens and happy hunting grounds. We will always remember her as our heavenly angel who will continue to watch over and guide us all.
A Wake Service will be held at the Tanner Center, Cardston on Wednesday, January 18 from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Thursday, January 19 at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Blood Band Cemetery, Blood Reserve, AB.
