Justin Jerry Young Pine “Mamiikis’tsipimii” Fish Pinto
June 9, 1943 – November 17, 2022
It is with great sadness and extreme sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, godfather, brother, and uncle. Dad was called home on Thursday November 17, 2022 at the age of 79 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Justin was predeceased by his wife Noella Young Pine (Nee Day Chief), his eldest daughter Karen Young Pine, Grandson Mike Jr. Sweet Grass, Granddaughter Kailey Shade-Young Pine, and great-grandson Kelsey Joy Young Pine. His parents Mr. & Mrs. Jim (Margaret) Young Pine, Siblings; Virginia, Annabella (Max) Big Throat, Elroy, and Kelly Young Pine. In-Laws; Dick and Annie Day Chief, Calvin Day Chief, Richard Thunder Chief, Delores Day Chief, and Darren Day Chief.
Justin was born to Jim and Margaret Young Pine at the Blood Indian Hospital, Blood Reserve and was raised in Bull Horn area. He attended the St. Mary’s Indian Residential School where he met and married the love of his life Noella Young Pine (Nee Day Chief), together they raised their beautiful children with strong Catholic Values. As a devout Catholic, Justin ensured to pass on his faith by leading by example. He was dedicated to his rosaries, attending Holy Mass on Sundays, and the annual Lac St Ann Pilgrimage. He was also a member of the “Siisiksis” Society and supported all practices of faith and denominations.
His upbringing included farming and ranching with his father Jim, grandfather Joe Young Pine, his uncle Billy Young Pine and grand uncle Black Sleep. He also Competed in rodeo such as Bareback, Steer Wrestling, and Bull-riding. His athletic Abilities did not stop there and included Football, Basketball, and Hockey where he played in Fort Saint John, New Brunswick. He was also a member of the Cadets in Vernon B.C. He also enjoyed playing Bingo and Hand games where he travelled to the State side. His extensive employment history began at an early age when he worked for Staple Brother’s Farming and Ranching in Babb, Montana. Kainai Industries, Blood Tribe Public Works, and BTAP.
As our family matriarch, Justin made many sacrifices going above and beyond to ensure his children and family’s safety and well-being were met. He often did this by making a phone call and his rounds checking in on them and never hesitating to extend a helping hand, where and whenever it was needed. He was immensely proud of his family and their accomplishments. He made it his duty to show up and support their Sporting events, Powwows, especially Rodeo and Chuckwagons. Justin would often be seen and heard in the crowd cheering them on and later giving them guidance, and advice. Family meant the world to him, celebrations, and ceremonies such as Birthdays, Baptisms, Weddings, Graduations and the like. He was sure to be there and show his support.
He leaves to mourn his children; Harley (Becky) Young Pine, Stephanie (Mike) Sweet Grass, Tessie (Bobby) Creighton, Marvin (Michelle), Christy, Cynthia, Caroline, and Marlon Young Pine.
