JOLAYNE ZEMP (Jo), our dear sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away at the age of 73 on April 30, 2023, in the Cardston Health Centre, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jo was born January 9, 1950 in Raymond to Ray and Leola Redford Zemp. She was the second of eight children.
In 1959, Jo moved with her family to Utah. She graduated from Layton High School and worked in and around the Ogden area in various positions of responsibility. She had an excellent work ethic and was always a valued employee. She had a quick intellect and was a gifted problem solver. Her final employment was at the Cardston Alberta Temple in the laundry and custodial departments.
Jo never married, but she was born with a kind and nurturing heart which she freely shared, especially with her parents and siblings. When her mother became ill and moved back to Cardston, Jo moved with her to continue to care for her until she passed away in 2006. Jo’s siblings are eternally grateful to her for this service.
Jo was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. As an avid gospel scholar, one of Jo’s favorite assignments was teaching Relief Society.
Jo never sought for the limelight and was happier working and serving quietly in the background. For her siblings, she the go to person in times of trial, as well as in times of joy. Her quick wit, good counsel and non-judgmental support help put any of their problems into perspective. She was a rock for several of her siblings and they loved her for it. Even in her final days she was concerned about their well-being.
Jo faced her battle with cancer without complaining. Her mantra she took from a A.A. Milne’s quote: “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” She proved that she was all of those things.
Jo is proceeded in her death by her parents, Ray and Leola, and her brother Gordon Ray Zemp. She is survived by her siblings: Donnalee (Mark) Rigby of Ivins Utah, Marlene (Jimmy) Jacobson of Clearfield Utah, Brent (Leslie) Zemp of Las Vegas Nevada, Sidney (Stacy) Zemp of Suffolk Virginia, Cameron (Lila) Zemp of Las Vegas Nevada, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family deeply thanks those medical personnel who cared so kindly for Jo at the Cardston Health Centre, as well as the many cousins and friends who associated with and embraced her in the last years of her life. Notably, Reed and Marie Zemp, Logan and Cyndy Zemp, Linda Rogers and Kay Lybbert.
