It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, father, nephew, uncle, cousin and in-law, PATRICK DELANO ACROSS THE MOUNTAIN, Siika’Piiyioh’Kiitopi (Black Horse Rider) on July 7, 2024 in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 54 in the Lethbridge Chinook Hospital. Born May 4, 1970 at the Blood Indian Hospital in Cardston, AB to the late Frank Coal and Isabel Across The Mountain. He was raised by the late Paul Sr and Mary Stella Bare Shin Bone. Patrick lived in a group home in his childhood years and was also welcomed into Ron McDonald and Margaret Across The Mountain’s home along with Bobby and Leon Across The Mountain and Eugene Hairy Bull. It was how the friendship between him and Ron became close.
As a child he received his education at the Cardston Elementary School. In 2012 he attended a carpenter class at the Kainai Industrial building with Ron, Shane and Duane Jr and some other students. They all went to their first year of carpentry and he was pretty smart and good in math. They all passed it. Patrick was happy about completing his first-year course.
His occupational job was Fire Fighting to which he truly enjoyed becoming a fire fighter. He also enjoyed Apple, Mint, Sweetgrass and Sage Picking whenever he could find the time to do them.
Patrick was an all-around exceptional, loving person who spent a lot of time with family and friends that he met up with. He was a clean person who kept his home and surroundings, always tidy. Patrick’s hobbies included, listening to heavy metal music and he also attended many concerts to which the last concert attended was a tribute band to CCR on May 4, 2024, held on his birthday in Lethbridge at the Enmax center. He loved drawing, painting, poetry writing, beading, making dream catchers, he was a tattoo artist and designer. He made his own tattoo gun and did artwork for whoever asked him, especially for Margaret’s husband, Ron, who always was his main customer.
He also had a love for cooking and always took the opportunity to cook for the family household. One time he made himself a homebrew and didn’t speak a word to anyone in Roxanne’s home about it until suspicion arose on how he was getting drunk. He helped and did work for Dale Low Horn Sr and Allen Wells whenever he was needed. He also did work for Martin Hairy Bull with travelling with him to get Teepee railings or just whenever it was requested of him to help. Patrick also had a close bond with Bruce Bare Shin Bone and Leon Across The Mountain. They did things together when it came to crafts. His last place of residence was in Lethbridge at River House, where he was loved by all staff and residents.
Patrick is survived by his three children, two daughters: Tanis Betts, Charnation Across The Mountain (whom he personally delivered), one son, Martin Across The Mountain, two grandchildren, Jesykah and Xander, special friend Eleanor Crying Head, brothers: Laurie Across The Mountain, Richard, Coal, Eugene Hairy Bull and Ron McDonald, sisters: Roxanne First Charger, Rono, Brenda, Carmen, Pamela Bare Shin Bone, Charlene David and Noreen Black Plume, aunts: Margaret Across The Mountain and Maryanne Shouting, one uncle: Norbert Across The Mountain, in laws, Martin and Elizabeth Vielle, numerous nieces and nephews.
