Growing up RJ enjoyed chicken dancing, drawing, playing fast ball with his team St. Francis and hanging out with his cousin’s and friends. RJ also had a love for music, CCR being his favourite band. Rj enjoyed many family trips to Creston B.C. to pick apples with his family and yearly trips to Arlee, Montana with the whole family. One of the family's favourite trips was one he navigated to Osoyoos BC, although it was a long and hot drive RJ made sure he showed his family a fun time. RJ loved to travel with his family. RJ also found employment with sister Rosabelle at Paxman Potato farm. RJ also worked alongside auntie Margaret and Rosabelle for CP rail. Later RJ would also find employment with WOP on the reserve and with dad Martin's tipi pole business. In 1989 RJ met the love of his life, Rose Mary, and later welcomed two daughter's Kayla & Lorena, and raised cousin Anthony who he took as a son. RJ and Rose also raised nieces Cammy and Nora. RJ & Rose Mary were well known amongst family and friends for being ultimate Oilers fans, making it a point to watch every game & decorate their home and vehicle with Oilers memorabilia. The two always enjoyed going to concerts and ensuring they bought souvenirs, even if it was just a keychain. RJ & Rose also hosted many barbeques, Halloween, New Year's eve and birthday parties in their home. Friends and family always felt welcome. RJ loved his family tremendously, often spoiling his children with anything they wanted and whenever Rose Mary was upset with the girls, RJ was always the peacemaker, reassuring his girls he had their backs. When his grandchildren were born, he loved them just as much, or even more than his girls, he provided for their every need and spoiled them often. He enjoyed taking Rose Mary and the grandkids for drives in the mountains. Mackenzie, being the only girl, was his baby and always got her way with him. RJ had a tremendous love for his family, from the oldest relative to the newest baby, he was kind, humble, and valued every person he came in contact with. The Across The Mountain family would like to Thank Malcom Eagle Speaker, who stood by RJ as a friend, brother, caregiver and support this past year. We are thankful beyond words for your service and friendship to RJ,his daughter’s and grandchildren. RJ was our dad, papa, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Wake service to be held on Thursday, May 12 from at 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
