Gordon “Gordie” Joseph Beebe, age 51, passed away suddenly on December 14th, leaving behind a profound emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Gordie was born on March 25, 1974, in Lethbridge, Alberta. From a young age, he was known for his strong spirit, adventurous nature, and deep love for the outdoors. He could almost always be found outside building bike ramps, rafting on the river, riding horses, fishing, biking, making sledding jumps, and helping on the ranch. These early experiences shaped both his character and his lifelong passion for building and creating.
As he grew older, that passion turned into a career. Gordie lived and worked in Calgary for many years, where he became a skilled carpenter and eventually an independent contractor. He was known for his craftsmanship, work ethic, and ability to build, repair, or transform almost any space. Gordie took great pride in his work and loved showing family and friends the places he helped create often driving by job sites or taking loved ones into the bars and buildings he had worked on. Later in life, he returned to the Blood Reserve, carrying with him the skills, experience, and pride he had built over the years.
Above all else, Gordie’s greatest love was his son, Geordie “Jett” Beebe. Being a father was his proudest role. From the moment Jett was born, Gordie was right there building alongside him, teaching him, and sharing his love of creating things with his own hands. He made sure Geordie always had adventures to look forward to, whether it was building outdoor rinks, setting up a pool or trampoline, or creating elaborate tracks for toys. Everything Gordie did was rooted in his love for his son.
Gordie is lovingly remembered by his son Geordie “Jett” Beebe; his mother, Elizabeth Yellow Feet; his sisters Donna Beebe, Pam (Tito) Gomez, Ellie Beebe, Pattie Devine, Pam McDougall, and Jessica Shaw; and his brothers Curt (Gail) McDougall, Brian McDougall, Don (Val) McDougall, and Adam Shaw. He was a proud uncle and a steady presence for his nieces and nephews, often stepping in as a father figure—always ready to help, fix, build, or support without hesitation.
He was predeceased by his father Wayne Beebe; adopted parents Wilf and Mary Ruth McDougall; brothers Warren Beebe, Shawn Big Head, PJ Big Head, and Dan McDougall; sisters Wayna Beebe and Verna McDougall; and his nephew Zach Beebe. Gordie carried the love and memories of those he lost with him always.
Known as a gentle giant, Gordie was one of the strongest men many of us knew—kind, hardworking, dependable, and always wearing a smile. He was the person you called when something was broken or when life felt heavy, and somehow, he always made things better. To his family, he was a hero who saved the day more times than could ever be counted.
In his downtime, Gordie loved spending time with family and friends, visiting, telling stories, playing pool, and watching hockey. He was a diehard Edmonton Oilers fan, cheering passionately through every season. His laughter, warmth, and presence filled rooms and made people feel welcome.
Gordie’s absence leaves a space that can never be filled. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his strength, generosity, craftsmanship, and the immense love he had for his family—especially his son. There will never be another like him.
