With heavy hearts we announced the passing of Karla Black Plume Aah’nasaapih’sakii, who left us suddenly after a short battle with pneumonia on December 6, 2025 in the Lethbridge regional Hospital at the age 42, Karla was born May 25, 1983 in Magrath Hospital and passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025 at the age of 42.
She is survived by her mom Shirley Black Plume her children Tristan Day Chief, Dragon Black Plume, Trinity Day Chief, Aiden Black Plume, and her brothers Bobby Black Plume, Eric Olsen and sisters Stephanie Olsen, and Carissa Olsen, Her best friend Leslie Mitchell and many more friends and she has many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
She is predeceased by her father, Samuel Charles Olsen (Sam), her unclees Norman Black Plume, Colin Black Plume, Gerald Black Plume, Jerry Brown Weasel. her Auntie‘s Colleen Black Plume, Easter Red Crane, she joins her grandparent who she loved very much Geraldine Black Plume, Jim Black Plume.
Karla is a woman of remarkable strength and resilience. Her life held more hardships, the most ever received, years marked by severe trauma and battles, she never asked for, yet she met each day with a fierce spirit that refused to quit. She overcame so much, always fighting her way back with courage and determination. She was beautiful inside and out. Her smile had a way of lighting room. Despite her hardship she kept her heart open and her love fierce. Above all Karla was a devoted mother. She leaves behind her four children, Tristan Kadro-Gage Day Chief, Dragon Jim Vanderlei, Laetitia Trinity Ried Day Chief, Aiden Black Plume, who were her greatest joy and the reason she fought so hard to build a better life, her love for them was limitless. Karla was very proud of her children and did her best to make every celebration they had in their life. She would go out of her way to show up to birthday parties, Graduation ceremonies any rodeos, she was such a proud mother and she will be sincerely missed by her children. Her mother Shirley Black Plume was her biggest supporter and best friend Karla will always be remembered for her bravery compassion, her humor, and the way she always got back up, no matter how many times life knocked her down. Her absent leaves an ache that words cannot describe, but her spirit lives on in her children and the countless hearts she touched.

  
A two day wake service will be held at Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at 2:00 -11:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 am - 11:00 pm. A funeral service will be at Senator Gladstone Hall on Friday, December 19 at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Blood Reserve.
