BLACK PLUME
RAYMOND BLACK PLUME, passed away on March 6, 2021 in Lethbridge, AB at the age of 74 years. Raymond Black Plume was also known as “Mi’kotsiinsstaam”, but I and my sisters called him “Dad”. Born in 1946 to Bob and Suzette Black Plume, Dad often talked about how his parents became one of the first Christians on the Blood Reserve. Because of Grandma and Grandpas’s belief in God, Dad’s ministry began in 1962, he then became a song leader for the General of the faith, the late Harold Carpenter. Throughout the years Dad became an evangelist and travelled throughout the United States and Canada. There he met many ministers and pastors from the Navajo, Apache Reservation, Tacoma WA, Crow Nation, Phoenix ARI, Lodge Grass, Fort Worth TX, Hoopa Ca, Whitefish AB, Frog Lake, Edson, Wabasca, Supai ARI, Fort Quapelle SK, Gordons Reserve SK, Siksika Nation, Peigan Nation, Blackfeet Reservation, and Niagra Falls, ON. Dad had a great love for God and dedicated his life to Him. Dad often talked about when he sang at the Norbridge Senior Centre and the years when he worked as an advisor for the Tribal Government and Waterton National Park. He was also an historian for the Blood Tribe and he was a very valuable man because of his knowledge of the past. Dad was the greatest story teller ever. Dad also became a member of the Beaver Society and the Horn Society. It is genuinely impossible to sum up Dad’s life in a matter of minutes. To do it right would take days, weeks even. He just did so much. He went everywhere, he met everyone and made a massive impression wherever he went. Dad became a musician at the age of 14 and continued for the next 61 years. Because of his love for music, he taught my sisters and me to play the guitar and sing, we also developed a great love for music and Dad’s grandchildren have become accomplished musicians like Grandpa. Growing up with a dad like that is a rare thing. Dad had a special grandson and great grandson- Max (Sugar Ray) and Isaiah (Bear/Dukey), they were his kippitaipokaikksi. Dad was married to our mom Jenny for 23 yrs and although they went their separate ways they remained friends to the end. Dad is survived by his daughters and adopted daughters: Joanne, Shoby-Rae, Cheryl, Louise, Lucecilia, Jessica, Janet, Doreen, Ann-Marie, Sandra, Eileen, Karen, Ginnie, Yvette, Kaily, Alva, Michaeline, Bernice, Glenda, Rose, Shirley, and Colleen; son and adopted sons, Toby, Timothy, Daylin, Richard, Pete, Stan, Patrick, Allen, William, Phillip, Ruben, Thomas (Nadine), Rodney/Man, Norman, Bruce, Horace, Arnold (Cheryl), Darrell, Rodney, Dexter, Robi; numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Suzette Black Plume; sisters, Janie, Irene, Cecile, Nora, Julia, Lucy, Christine, Dora, Jacinta; brothers, Tom, Cecil, Harrison, Dick, Horace; daughters, Kimberly, Vivian, Rolanda, Tracy; sons, Vincent, Kelson, and Calvin.
