What is life? It is the flash of a firefly in the night. It is the breath of a buffalo in the wintertime. It is the little shadow that runs across the grass and loses itself in the sunset.
– Chief Crowfoot
It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, sister, and mother, Arinelle Mystique Boucher, Ais’taa Sippisoota (Night Come Rain).
Arinelle was born on October 15, 2002, and left us far too soon on January 11, 2025, at the tender age of 22 years, 2 months, and 2 days. She leaves behind her precious 2-month-old son, Cal Jr., whom she loved with all her heart. Arinelle was looking forward to motherhood with excitement and hope. Her love for her son was evident in the dreams she had for him, dreams filled with love and brighter days. Her journey was not without its struggles, but even through the storms of life, she showed us her humor, resilience, and her unshakable bond with family.
Her laughter was infectious, her spirit playful and mischievous. Her aunt Delia remembers the time Arinelle, with two cousins in tow, decided to flush their retainers down the toilet to avoid wearing them. She could always find a way to make the ordinary extraordinary, bringing life to every moment.
Her love for karaoke was unmatched, belting out Eye of the Tiger and Right Round at full volume alongside her cousin LX, never letting a wrong note get in the way of a good time. And who could forget the time she tried to use a Barbie toilet? Her cousin Drake will tell you the story—with laughter, as Arinelle would have wanted.
Arinelle’s life was not without its challenges, a journey over very sharp rocks, the world was unfair to her and the challenges were often too heavy. Despite that, she loved deeply, laughed loudly, and lived as best as she could. She leaves us with memories of her boldness, her humor, and the seeds of dreams she had for her son.
Her legacy will live on in Cal Jr., who will grow up surrounded by the love of his family and the stories of his mother’s vibrant spirit. Arinelle’s life, though too short, has left an indelible mark on all of us.
Birth and Death are twin journey’s that every spirit will take. As we grieve, we also take comfort in knowing that her spirit is free, embraced by the ancestors who have walked before her. She is now part of the stars, watching over us, especially her son.
Arinelle, Ais’ta Sippisoota, may you rest peacefully. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. Arinelle’s family would like to acknowledge the family members and people who were part of her life.
Her parents, Kelly Blackwater and Eric Fullmer. Her grandparents, the late Pam and Stanley Blackwater. Her grandparents, Mariette and Roger Boucher. Her great grandmother Lorraine Standing Alone. Her aunts and uncles, Chanting and Eric Parker, Sheryl and Rod Onespot, Delia Popowich, Natalie and Robert Martin, Tina Standing Alone, Natasha Standing Alone, Greg Russell. Her god mother-Sherry Red Crow, Hank, Gordie, Lydia Bruisedhead, Benita Bruisedhead, the late Steven Blackwater, great aunt Donalda Bigthroat, uncle Ross Blackwater, Dellores Holland, Robyn, Mark Toby. The late Brenda Blackwater, Shyle, Brandon, Gabriel, Nikki, Seven, the late Auntie Bernadette, Jackie, Monica, Chickery (Ace), Oka. Bill and Shannon Blackwater, Lynn Calfrobe and Stu Big Snake family, Melissa, Ronald Bullcalf, Lana Bullsheild, Ainsley, Marcus, Drasis, Aviana. Late uncle Darcy Bigthroat and the Bigthroat family, Jimmy Firstrider Aida, and KC. The Twigg family, the Redcrows, the Plumes, the late Larry Popowich and the late Morgan Popowich. And finally, there are also so many cousins, too many to name, but all were important to Arinelle.
A wake service will be held at the St. Paul's Anglican Church, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Friday, January 24, 2025 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. A funeral service will also be at St. Paul's Anglican Church on Saturday, January 25 starting at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at St. Paul’s cemetery, Blood Reserve.
