ARLENE JOYCE BRINKHURST (Wilkinson), beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 91, Wednesday August 27, at Good Samaritan Lee Crest, Cardston, Alberta.
She was born April 2, 1934, in Winnipeg and Her parents were Gordon Percival Wilkinson and Margaret Elizabeth Gordon. She took piano lessons, enjoyed camping, and the outdoors, and her parents regularly took her to their summer cottage, where she swam and later became a lifeguard.
She moved to Calgary and became a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and went on a mission to South Africa. After returning, she met and eventually married her lifelong companion, George Gordon Brinkhurst on October 21, 1961. They had three children, David Brinkhurst, Cameron Brinkhurst and Heather Brinkhurst. Her grandchildren are Michael Brinkhurst, Stephanie Brinkhurst, Benjamin Brinkhurst and Lily Brinkhurst.
She was predeceased by her younger brother Barry Wilkinson, who died August 28, 2021, at the age of 81 years, at Cedars Villa in Calgary.
Arlene aways kept active and she was an avid gardener. She loved raising orchids and was a member of the Orchid Society in Lethbridge. She loved opera music and had a talent for drawing. She was someone with a strong work ethic, who’s hands were always busy and she listened to CBC radio while doing housework. She also liked to sew and embroider.
She endured several health problems including two brushes with cancer and arthritis of the hip which confined her to a wheelchair. Through it all, she kept her smile, strong faith in God and in the Gospel, her noble selflessness, and her heartfelt empathy and concern for others. She was a great example. She is deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, relatives and many friends.”
A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cardston Cemetery.
