NORMA LOUISE BROADHEAD, wife of the late LaMont Broadhead, passed away peacefully in Cardston, Alberta on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
Norma was born in Cardston, AB, on April 20, 1928 to Morgan Rasmus Strate and Jennie Marie (Adamson) Strate. She was the oldest of four children: Norma, Morgan (died in infancy), Helen Sorpold and Ron Strate.
Norma grew up in Mountain View and as an only child for ten years, spent a lot of time helping her father outdoors milking cows, driving the hay rake and taking milk to the cheese factory. She also helped her mother care for her grandmother and learned to become a wonderful cook. She was very well known for her delicious “Long-Johns” and could make a scrumptious meal out of nothing. She would often say, “Now this is not fancy” but it did not take fancy to know what delicious was.
As a youth, Norma loved dances, skating parties, school activities, house parties with friends and participating in community events in Mountain View. Norma first saw Mont who was twelve years old at the time, when he was moving from Beazer to Mountain View with his family. His father Parley Broadhead was driving a wagon loaded down with furniture and Mont was driving a wagon with his pig in the back. He saw Norma standing on her door-step as they passed by and they always liked to say, it was love at first sight. They were married 8 years later, on September 15, 1948. Three daughters were born to Mont and Norma: Gayle Kaye, Joan Marie and Jeanne Lynn.
Mont and Norma bought the Broadhead Ranch from Mont’s father in Mountain View where they raised their daughters. As a family they worked many summers together in Waterton as the Caretakers at Cameron Lake Caretakers. Their girls ran the boat concession at Cameron for Alf and Ray Baker.
Later on in life, Mont and Norma found pleasure in loving and spoiling their 17 grandchildren. They enjoyed harnessing up their ponies and mules to carts and buggies and taking the grandkids on rides and picnics through the hills. Many summers were spent together on family camping trips, fishing, exploring, and enjoying the beauties of nature. Family was everything to Mont and Norma and they were never really content unless they knew all of the children and grandchildren were healthy and happy.
In the early 1980’s, Mont and Norma moved to Cardston. After 48 years of marriage Mont passed away in October of 1996. Norma missed him every day, as they really were inseparable. Where you found the one the other wasn’t very far away.
Norma has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church her entire life and held various positions including Primary teacher, served in Relief Society Presidencies, and in the Temple. Norma was devoted to her family, friends, neighbors and loved unconditionally. Her unwavering testimony of her Savior was seen and felt by all through her selfless acts of love.
She will be greatly missed by her two daughters Gayle (Reed) Jensen of Mountain View and Jeanne (Jack) Heggie of Raymond, 17 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. She is predeceased her eternal companion La Mont and by her daughter and son in law, Joan and Randy Forsyth, as well as many other family members and dear friends she had throughout her life. We know she is having a joyous reunion with all those she loved and missed dearly.
The Funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Mountain View, Alberta on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45 prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
