DAWN (MENDENHALL) BROOKS, beloved wife of the late Willard M (Bill) Brooks passed away on April 17, 2017 at the Raymond Health Centre at the age of 83.
She was born in Raymond on December 19, 1933 to Thomas Tew Mendenhall and Nita Johnson Rhea Mendenhall. She was the youngest of a blended family of 11 children.
Dawn grew up in Raymond, and lived there for most of her life. She graduated from the Galt School of Nursing in 1955.
Bill and Dawn were high school sweethearts and they were married in the Cardston Temple on March 7, 1956. Dawn loved being a nurse, and she practiced her skills both at the hospital and in her family of 8 children. Mom and Dad celebrated their 59th anniversary 4 months before his passing in July of 2015.
Dawn was a faithful member of the LDS church and served in many of the church organizations. She had a great love for flowers, with roses being her favourite. She and Dad had many beautiful flower beds and grew gardens for as long as they were able. She taught her only daughter to cook, bake, can, knit, crochet and sew. Mom also loved to quilt. Her children and grandchildren all have treasures she made for them. Mom loved her family and looked forward to family reunions and the July 1st parade, which always went hand in hand.
Dawn is survived by her children Tom (Loreen) of Lethbridge , Kelly (Kevin) Smith of Glenwood, Rick (Sheila) of Stratford ON, Cameron (Kim) of Cedar City Utah, Bill (Andrea) of Salem, Utah, Jeff of Raymond, and daughter-in-law Doreen of Lethbridge. Her surviving siblings are Lorin (Mildred) Mendenhall, and Ralph (Bea) Rhea, and sister-in-law Alma Mendenhall. She was predeceased by her husband Bill, sons Micheal and Jackie, and by siblings Virginia Holmes, Georgia Van Orman, Elizabeth Mendenhall, Jack, Bird Van Orman, Rae Evanson, Ross, and Gibb.
The family would like to thank the kind and understanding nurses, doctors and staff at the Raymond Health Centre who cared for Mom in her last days.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, TAYLOR STREET CHAPEL (4th West Hwy 52), Raymond on Monday, April 24th, at 1:00 p.m.
