Jordan Grant Chief Moon Jr. -- Sikspita
Born: February 20, 1979
Died: May 3, 2019
Jordan Grant Chief Moon Jr. ‘Sikspita’ passed away suddenly on Friday May 3, 2019 at the Chinook Regional Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Jordan leaves to mourn his loving wife of 22 years Jolaine Healy; children Maddux, Naveah, Jordan, Jeter and Nolan; mother Brenda Chief Moon; sisters Jodie, Terrie, Lacey (Ross) Chief Moon, and Elana Many Fingers; adopted siblings Cameron and Kelsey Tallow, Tyson and Kara Healy, Karleen (Dre) and Tia Big Plume; adopted children Nikeah, Bryton, Chayton, Maggie and Torin Chief Moon, Kayla, Trinity, and Tristan Healy; adopted parents Sandra Cat Face, John Bare Shin Bone, and Wilma Healy; Uncles Matthew (Mary Ann), Jimmy (Melinda) Chief Moon, William (Jessica), and Rodney Black Plume; Aunties Shirley Chief Moon, Carrie Black Plume, Doreen and Bernice Black Plume and his spiritual family -- the Apiistamiksi Horn Society.
Jordan was born in Cardston to Jordan and Brenda Chief Moon. He received his education from Cardston Elementary School, Cardston Jr. High School, Kainai High School and Mount Royal College. Jordan worked various labour jobs in Calgary to support him and Jolaine during college. His most important job was caring for his children and adopted children.
Jordan was raised in the Levern (Issoitapi) Community of the Blood reserve. He was very proud that he was Issoitapi and inspired younger generations to be proud of this. Jordan was well known for his natural athletic ability, fierce competitive nature and humorous ways. His quick wit and sarcastic humour will be missed. As a child, Jordan was known for putting buckets of water above the door and calling intended targets. He was the first dedicated athlete in the family and was often seen travelling with his dad Jordan Sr. to hockey, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, fastball and slo-pitch games where he garnered numerous awards. Jordan Sr. kept a thick scrapbook of all the newspaper clippings and headlines with “Chief Moon…” of all Jr.’s accomplishments.
Growing up with his relatives and friends in Levern, they played basketball at any court they could find and established their own team, the Young Guns, a championship team in the MLBL. He was most proud of being a Kainai Warrior 4 A All-star, MVP and Kainai Eagle Provincial Champion. Jordan’s athletic ability gained him a starting spot and captain on many teams. He played football, baseball and basketball with Kainai HIgh School and became known for his slick moves on the basketball court. His strong arm and heavy stature earned him respect among his competitors. He played with Cardston Thunder, Levern Jazz, Spazz, Peanuts, Blockheads, Skyforce, War Party, War Party Blue, Regulators and the Tomahawks. His teammates became lifelong friends that fondly remember his deadly 3-point shot, slap shot, no hitter, grand slams, blocks-and-kills that won him many awards and recognition. The Regulators Fastball team became his other family as they travelled to league games and tournaments including winning at the Kainai Indian Days in 2008, 2009 and 2011. His teammate and cousin Eldon Hind Bull was his best man at his wedding in 2013. Family and friends were important to Jordan of which was evident in the way he helped his siblings, parents and loved ones when he had the opportunity. Jordan’s love for his fellow man extended him into being captured and joining the Horn Society in 2013 with his loving companion Jolaine. Together they embraced and challenged themselves to adhere and practice their traditional ways alongside their spiritual family.
Jordan met the love of his life and soulmate as kids, but it wasn’t until their high school days that Jolaine became his companion for life. JR and Jo became inseparable from then on. They played basketball every chance they got at Gladstone Hall, and any gym or court they could find. Jordan’s team was always King of the Court. Jr. and Jo could be considered total opposites, yet they completed each other and remained solid throughout life’s ups-and-downs. They lived together in Calgary and Lethbridge before settling down in Levern to raise their family, where they encouraged and supported each other through school, work, play and ceremony. Jordan was overjoyed and tremendously proud of becoming a father and teaching his children everything about sports. Jordan was more than just a dad, he was coach, chauffer, confidante, best friend, knight in shining armor and ultimately, their joy every day. He got them safely to early morning games, sometimes driving all night for Maddux’s hockey. Being an attentive dad was something that came second nature to Jordan. You could always count on seeing him practice with his kids in whatever sport they were currently involved in, whether it was Naveah’s basketball and soccer or Maddux’s baseball and hockey. Jordan attended every game, cheering on his children and capturing every moment he could on camera. His pride and love for his kids was evident in all who knew him as he always talked about his children and how they were going to be future all-stars. He often referred to himself as Mr. Mom because he was usually the one to take care of his children fulltime. His role as a father extended to his nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and even children in the community. He started a weekly practice for the kids in Levern to learn fastball, basketball and baseball – they were well attended. His family loved his cooking. Jordan took the sacred step of marriage in 2013 with Jolaine in an emotional ceremony and celebration amongst his family and friends. When it was Jordan’s turn to speak, true to form, he kept it short and sweet. His touching words: “I may not be rich or famous but I’ll always love JO and I’ll always take care of her.” Those words were heartfelt and an indication of the immense love he had for Jolaine. Of course he added his own humourous touch that produced chuckles and rolling of eyes from the crowd. Jordan’s sense of humour and outspoken bold ways were endearing to his family and friends as he could make them laugh within seconds of greeting him. Jordan made an impact to all those who knew him and his loss will leave a void that can never be replaced. Jordan will be forever missed and forever loved by all who knew him.
