It is with great sadness that the family announce that Chayton Douglas Ross Chief Moon/Big Throat started his spiritual journey on April 29, 2023 at his home in Edmonton, Alberta, at the tender age of 21 years.

Chayton was predeceased by his Maternal Grandparents; Jordan Sr. and Brenda Chief Moon, and Paternal Grandfather Roland Big Throat, Uncles; Jimmy Shot Both Sides, Jordan Chief Moon “JR”, and Cameron Tallow and Aunt Tannis Big Throat.
Chayton was a beautiful lively baby who kept his family on their feet with his mischievous and sometimes rebellious ways. He was the type of child who liked to test his boundaries with his parents. Although he could get into trouble, he would always charm his way out with his friendly smile and sense of humor. Chayton was loved by his family and made his home with each of his Grandmothers; Brenda and Peggy, as well as with his Uncles and Aunts throughout his life. Chayton was a respectful boy always helping his family bring in the groceries without being asked, helping families at events, and helping to take care of his grandma Brenda.
Chayton was an all-around natural athlete who stood out in all the sports he enjoyed. His first love was hockey. He played pre-novice, novice, and pee-wee with the Kainai Minor Hockey League. He kept his family busy with travels to practice, games, tournaments, Calgary and Edmonton for Treaties and Provincials. And you couldn’t forget his meal money, he always expected and received a meal from the canteen or nearest fast food for all the hard work he put in at his event. Chayton’s most cherished memories were traveling to these occasions with his late Papa Jordan Chief Moon Sr. Chayton played various positions in hockey but always enjoyed his time between the pipes as a goalie. Volleyball came next during Jr. High where he and his teammates from Tatsikiisapoap Middle School won a banner during their Grade 8 season. He liked to tell the story of them winning the banner and cheering. Chayton also enjoyed baseball playing with the Kainai High School team and softball with his cousins and friends. Chayton played basketball with the Kainai High School Warriors. He loved the sport and attended the Kodiaks Basketball Day Camp which helped him gain valuable skills. His friends and teammates were always asking him to come help them at tournaments as he had some wicked defence. They would tell him we need you to guard this guy.
Chayton was raised in the community of Levern, which he was very proud of and instilled that same pride in his siblings and younger cousins. He attended the Levern Elementary School, Tatsikiisapoap Middle School and Kainai High School. Chayton was researching various programs and training to undertake at the time of his passing; but made an income during his teen years doing odd jobs such as cutting tipi poles, yard work, baby sitting and construction work.
Chayton’s hard work ethic transferred into his role as a parent when Chataydyn was born. Chayton would always be seen or pictured holding his son, walking him, and rocking him to bed. Chayton also played a father figure role to his adopted nieces and nephews. He took pride in teaching them sports, how to read, how to cook and how to play Xbox. Most importantly he taught them to be proud of who they were and never to let anyone tell them otherwise. Chayton had a very endearing and lovable personality which showed in his generous caring nature towards his siblings and adopted siblings. His dads family liked to joke that although Chayton was the smallest out of his brothers, and the toughest out of them. Chayton was very protective of his loved ones and would fiercely defend them. Chayton was very close to his brothers, he watched over Torin from the time he was born, he would often ask his brother if he needed anything done such as laundry or anything else. He drove him crazy when they played Xbox because he would be sneaky, even borderline cheating in his attempt to win. His brother River was his partner in crime and they considered each other as twins and referred to each other as “Hey Twin”, Chayton had a special bond with all his siblings and adopted siblings.
Chayton was very outgoing and made an instant connection with everyone he met, which was evident in the numerous nicknames he had. Chayton went by many names such as Chayton, Dougie, Douglas, Dougielas, Dougie-Chay, Chay-Day, and CD. These were just the nicknames his family called him so you can only imagine what his friends called him! Chayton was a very handsome boy with his big bright eyes, crooked smile and dimples that drove the girls crazy, but his heart belonged to his girlfriend/wife Tameeka. They had an old-fashioned courtship dating through messenger and texting before finally spending time together and starting a family. He doted on his wife and son, surprising them with spur of the moment gifts and dinners at their favorite restaurants. Chayton was an amazing parent never letting go of his son from the moment he was born, the day his son was born was the greatest day of his life. He spent his last days making memories with Chataydyn and Tameeka. Chayton was close to his family and home but his heart was set on making a forever home with his love and baby boy. He travelled far from his family which was hard on everyone but Chayton had found, and looked forward to starting his family in Edmonton with Tameeka. Her family welcomed him with open arms and came to love him as their own.
Chayton meant so much to everyone in his life and their lives will forever be altered with his passing. His son, wife, family and friends were blessed to have been a part of Chaytons brief but yet touching life. Chayton, and all his charismatic, humorous ways will be deeply missed, we will all remember that unforgettable bashful smile he had as he comes walking in through the door.
A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston, Alberta on Monday, May 8 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Tuesday, May 9 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the Pioneer Cemetery, Blood Reserve.
