It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Duane Chief Moon. Duane passed away at the Chinook Regional Hospital surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren and family on March 31, 2025, at the age of 62 years. 
Duane is survived by his wife, Ramona Yellow Horn. Children: Odell (Jessica) Many Shots, Terrance (Nora) Many Shots, Jocelyn (Memphis) Many Shots, Jeremy Many Shots, Brendan Many Shots, Cassandra (Nikki) Chief Moon, and Rayne Yellow Horn. Adopted children: Misty Many Shots, James Gurney, Guy Healy. Harlem Many Shots, Tamara Many Shots, Davie Healy, Destiny First Charger, Tia First Charger and Chewy Smith. Grandchildren: Rita, Drazlyn, Derreck, Duane “Tineil”, Braden, Shaylee, Odie, Unique, Aisha “Alia” (Mack), Lorena, Kobe, Lonnie, Leah, Tessa, Tate, Payten, Mavis, Macius and Kingsley. Great-grandchildren: Addyson, Zaiyah and Kaliya. Nephews: Darwin Chief Body and Clay Healy. Nieces: Sonya and Michelle Healy. Maternal Aunt: Claudia Sugai. Paternal Aunts: Christine (Roy) Bare Shin Bone, Clara Chief Moon, and Maryann (Max) Chief Moon. Paternal Uncles: Chris, Jim, and Donald Shot Both Sides. (The family apologizes for any aunts and uncles missed). Duane comes from a big family. He had numerous cousins, nieces, and Nephews. 
Duane was born on October 21, 1962, at the Blood Indian Hospital. His biological parents are the late Bernard Shot Both Sides and Sophia Ella Chief Moon. Duane’s mom Ella passed when he was at an early age. His paternal grandparents Jim and Annie raised him. He was also raised by his maternal aunt Linda Bruised Head. He was close with Linda’s children and took them as his siblings. Duane grew up around the Levern area. When he was young, he rode horses around with his family. Duane attended school on the Blood Reserve and attended Hamilton Junior High School. Duane met the late Connie Many Shots and they had six children together (Odell, Terrance, Jocelyn, Jeremy, Brendan & Cassandra). They raised their children together until they went their separate ways. Later, Duane met his wife Ramona, and she instantly became apart of the family. Duane and Ramona raised grandchildren Rita, Drazlyn and Derreck. They have a Chihuahua named Betty White whom Duane loved dearly. Duane always shared stories about his late dad Bernard with his kids and grand kids and often talked about him. Duane always expressed how much he missed his parents and siblings. Duane was close with all his children especially his daughter Jocelyn who always spent time with him and Ramona. Duane cherished all his children and always checked on them. He loved all his grandchildren. 
Duane worked at the Tabor Sugar Factory, Exhibition grounds as Maintenance and Security for Whoop Up Days. Duane loved working for the Sugar Factory. One time, he came home with a Beet from the sugar factory for his grandkids Rita, Drazlyn and Derreck to play with. Duane was a hard worker and always provided for his family. Duane loved to travel and go on trips. He traveled to different places such as Crow Montana, Albuquerque New Mexico, Alaska, and Vancouver, B.C. 
He enjoyed the company of everyone around him. He was close to his aunt Mary-Ann and often visited her. Duane enjoyed visiting with all his aunts. He loved spending time with his family during the holidays and cooked big meals for them. Duane loved birthdays. He always made his grandkids birthdays special and got them lots of gifts. Duane was a caring person and always made sure his kids and grandkids had everything they needed. 
He had a love for horses. He enjoyed going to Powwows and liked to BBQ in the summertime with his family. He liked going for walks in the coulees and going on bike rides with his wife and grandchildren. He enjoyed hanging out at the mall. He liked to joke around with his family and friends. He liked listening to music and loved George Strait. He liked to sit and blast his music. He enjoyed going to concerts. Duane loved kidney and made sure there was kidney served at every BBQ. One of his favorite places to eat was KFC. Duane had lots of tools and enjoyed fixing things. He enjoyed fixing vehicles and taught his son Terrance mechanics. Duane liked going for drives especially with his family. He enjoyed cooking and had a secret sauce. He wouldn’t give anyone the recipe. 
Duane was outgoing and was well known by a lot of people everywhere. He had a lot of friends. Duane lived a beautiful life with his wife, kids and Grandchildren. 
Duane has the lineage of Kainai Chiefs, maternal great, great grandfather Chief Red Crow as well as Paternal great grandfather Chief Shot Both Sides and grandfather Chief Jim Shot Both Sides. Duane was predeceased by his parents: Bernard Shot Both Sides and Ella Chief Moon. Sisters: Noreen (Sally), Bernadine and his twin sister Rose Mary Chief Moon. Brothers: Alvin, Clifford, and Delvin Chief Moon. Paternal grandparents Chief Jim and Annie Shot Both Sides. Maternal Grandparents Victor and Mary Chief Moon. Maternal Aunt: Linda Bruised Head. Paternal Aunt: Flora Shot Both Sides. Grandchildren: Lena Bull Shields, Terri & Josam Across The Mountain. Great grandchild: Zayden Many Shots. Niece: Kayla Chief Moon. Adopted brother: Fritz Chief Moon and John Starzyck. Although Duane has made his journey home, the family will forever be thankful for the love and happiness he brought into each of our lives. Duane will be deeply missed by us all.

A wake service will be held at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. A funeral service will also be at Senator Gladstone Hall on Saturday, April 12 at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Pioneer Cemetery, Blood Reserve.
