Samara was born to Brenda Mistaken Chief and Vernon Sr. Chief Moon on February 18, 1980, at the Cardston Hospital in Cardston, Alberta.  Samara attended grade school (1-2) at the Stand-off Saipoyi Elementary School, Cardston Elementary School (3-6), Cardston Junior High (7-9), Cardston High School (10-12), and Kainai High School (upgrading).  Post-secondary accomplishments include Red Crow College (UCEPP), Mount Royal College (Early Childhood Care & Education), and Mount Royal University (Childcare Leadership and Management).
Samara had a huge heart for children, sports, and family.  Samara was a strong believer in child advocacy, which led her to pursue education and a career working with children. As many of Samara's friends know, she had a passion for education, shoes, travelling, the Calgary Flames, and the Kansas City Chiefs, but those soon took a back seat when the love of her life, Nema, was born!  It was then that Samara knew her life had purpose and chose to raise Nema solo with the help of her brother Junior, mother Brenda, and father Vernon.  Nema was the apple of Samara’s eye; she instilled in her with culture, religion, manners, family, adventure, sports, education, fun, and, most importantly, love.  Samara was very involved with her daughter in sports, education, and hockey.
Samara’s hobbies included beading, visiting her sisters for dinner or by the campfire, cleaning, taking part in Nema’s sports, going shopping with Nema, late-night card games, bingo, attending craft fairs, taking part in Sundance, attending pow-wows, and playing PUBG with her friends from all over the world.  You just knew Samara was playing her PUBG game when she was reciting every curse word in the book when she was losing.  Samara was very calm and pleasant until you double-crossed her in her online games or at bingo.
Samara worked for various companies and organizations in Calgary and with the Blood Tribe, but the highlight of her career was her work with various childcare centres in Calgary.  This included being an Assistant Director with Lin-el Lake Midnapore Child Care Centre and Brightpath Early Learning & Child Care Centre: Childcare Development Supervisor with Metis Calgary Family Services Society: Managing Director with Kainaipokaiksi Day Care Centre with FCSS on the Blood Reserve: Education Assistant with the Cardston Kindergarten: and Office Assistant with Kainaiwa Children Services and Red Crow Community College.
Samara was also an entrepreneur with a side business: she beaded regalia, earrings, and medallions, made moccasins, and was an independent Avon Seller and a top-tier Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.  Samara has taken part in numerous craft fairs and markets across Alberta and has built a valuable customer base.  Samara just loved all her clients and customers, and just loved challenging her creativity and imagination with different projects.  Her favourite pastime was attending craft fairs with her sister, Amanda Chief Moon, and leaving the kids at home.
Samara’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre for their care and comfort during Samara’s cancer journey.  Samara built long-lasting friendships with her medical team and nurses, and in her last days, they did everything they could to keep her here with us.  Regardless of the heartbreaking outcome, Samara loved all her nurses, including Dr. Safiya Karim and her nurse, Sandy, whose heart and compassion meant everything to Samara.
The family would like to apologize if they missed anyone; Samara had a huge family and a huge circle of friends; she loved and cared for so many people.  Samara had a generous spirit and a heart of gold, an unselfish person whose actions showed concern for others' welfare and who expected nothing in return. She will be missed at home and certainly in the community! A caring mother and friend, she will be forever!

The Wake Service will be held on Monday, May 25 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm at Moses Lake Community Hall, Blood Reserve. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 26 at 12:00 pm at the Cardston Civic Center (67 3rd Ave West, Cardston).  Interment will follow in the Chief Moon Family Cemetery.
