In his teens, Sonny participated in the rodeo circuit as a bull rider. He attended various large rodeos including Kainai, Kamloops, Hobbema and Arlee Montana. A sport he actively practised, Sonny was particularly fond of horse breeding, which he continued up until his untimely passing. Sonny traveled extensively through Canada and United States entering in hand game tournaments over the course of many years. Along the way, making new friends and gaining new family with those he encountered. Sonny had many skills and interests specifically his Blackfoot spiritual life. As those who knew Sonny, he and his comrade, the late Alvin John Heavy Runner, known for their silly epic adventures, travelled to various places attending concerts, hand game tournaments, car shows, and powwows. They always shared amazing stories, and hilarious experiences about their travels. Sonny was indeed a kind and humble man, although he was very private, he was always open about how he was. What was certainly true about Sonny, was his love for his children, family and his friends. Sonny was always generous with his knowledge, always available to help others especially in challenging situations.
