July 20, 2008 - July 16, 2024
It is with great sadness that we, the family and friends of Kiara Hailey Devine-Calling Last, announce her sudden passing. Our beautiful sweet angel was called home on July 16th, 2024, at the tender age of 15 years.
Kiara was born at Lethbridge Regional Hospital on July 20th, 2008, to proud parents Ian Jules Devine and Melissa Lynn Calling Last. Brothers Treyton and Derozan Devine-Calling Last, and Aiden Buunda, as well as little sister Senaya Twigg joined Kiara in the world in the years that followed.
From the very start, Kiara was bright and active, with a touch of her mom's shyness. She was the apple of her parents' eye, and she knew it! They set up a little zone for her that included her own TV, on which she watched Dora the Explorer, and top favorite, the Backyardigans. She was wonderful at entertaining herself, but when she got bored, Ian and Melissa would plunk her in the shower. How she loved the water!
After brother Treyton was born, Kiara never lost her side kick! Treyton and Kiara were inseperable, endlessly enjoying their adventures together. When Derozan came along, six years after Kiara, he was immediately adopted as the newest playmate. Derozan advanced quickly with his 2 older siblings as his teachers. They were the coolest!
Kiara started her schooling in 2014 at Opookaasin kindergarten in Lethbridge. From there she attended Westminster school for Grade One, and Lakeview School for Grade Two. Kiara was a strong student with endless curiousity, and many interests. She especially loved animals as a little girl. At one point, she thought she'd like to be a veterinarian. Kiara was also known in the family as an avid crafter. But her favorite activity was undoubtedly playing at the park. She loved playing "store," and sold Grampa Allen many an imaginary ice cream cone!
Kiara and her family moved into Moses Lake for her third year of Elementary School, and from that point on she attended Reserve schools. She was to start Grade 11 at Kainai High School at the time of her passing.
Kiara was loved by everyone she was surrounded by. She had a big heart and really lit up a room with her out-going personality and kind, calm demeanor. Her friends trusted her to talk to whenever they needed to get something off of their chests.
Kiara had a passion for basketball and would always ask to go play ball after school. She enjoyed teaching her friends how to properly shoot baskets. Kiara had a very close circle of supportive friends, including Miley and Koellie Scout, and long time bud Lennox BSH, who wrote, "I will forever be grateful for the memories we made together. I always looked forward to our next hang out, and our crazy adventures. Life has shown us its hurtful side by taking you away from us unexpectedly. I thank you for loving me unconditionally. I know you'll be watching over us, and you'll always be in our hearts. Until we meet again, rest easy. You're forever missed by the ridiculous 6 <3."
