ALAN WALLACE DUDLEY passed away in Magrath, Alberta, on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the age of 88 years. He was the devoted husband of Janeth Dudley and the late Patricia Dudley. Alan's life was defined by abiding faith, deep devotion to family, and a lifetime of selfless service to his community and his Saviour.
Alan was born on November 12, 1937, in Magrath, Alberta, to Wallace Dudley and Mary Elder Dudley. Raised on his parents' family farm in Magrath, he developed the strong work ethic, steady determination, and deep spiritual foundation that guided him throughout his life. He was the youngest of five children and always expressed heartfelt love for his siblings and their families.
On March 25, 1961, Alan married Patricia Hammers in St. Louis, Missouri. Together they built a home centered on faith, love, and unwavering commitment. They were steadfast in their devotion to one another and in their shared dedication to serving others. Following Patricia's passing in 2014, Alan was blessed to find love and companionship again when he married Janeth (Russell) Heath on April 30, 2016. Together they shared ten cherished years filled with family, faith, service, and joy.
Alan was a caring and devoted father to Tom, Wally, Patricia Lorraine *, James, Val *, Mark, Julie, Patrick, and Mary. He was a proud grandfather to 37, and great-grandfather to 38. He took every opportunity to express his love and encouragement, always wanting to hear the latest news from each member of his growing family. His steady guidance, gentle humor, warm hugs, and genuine interest in others left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. He exemplified kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
A faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alan served throughout his life in numerous callings, including Scout and Young Men's Leader, Elders Quorum President, High Councilor, Bishop, and Stake Presidency counselor. He viewed service not only as a duty, but as a sacred privilege and responsibility, striving to follow the example of his Saviour, Jesus Christ. He once reflected that he had worshipped and served in the temple weekly for more than 60 years, except while serving away on missions.
Alan and Patricia answered the first of many full-time missionary calls from 1996 through 2005. Their missions took them throughout Eastern Europe, including Romania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Ukraine, and Russia. They served in proselyting and service assignments, provided leadership support, presided over the Novosibirsk Mission in Russia, oversaw family history centers throughout Russia, and set up the missionary training center in Moscow. These years were both refining and rewarding. Alan and Patricia formed lifelong friendships across the world and often spoke of the miracles witnessed and the deep love they felt for the people they served.
Following Patricia's passing, Alan continued his missionary service alongside Janeth in 2017 and 2018 in England. Together, they loved the people they served and embraced every opportunity to minister and strengthen others.
Alan's commitment to service extended well beyond his Church responsibilities. He loved Magrath deeply and worked tirelessly to strengthen the community he called home. He served three consecutive terms as mayor of Magrath and contributed to numerous organizations and service clubs. He served for many years as president of the Magrath History and Museum Association and as president of the Kiwanis Club in Lethbridge. During his early family years, he was active in sports, and was honored as Lethbridge Sportsman of the Year in 1970, receiving the Percy Butler Memorial Trophy. He was a trusted leader, a steady presence, and a dear friend to many.
Alan served southern Alberta as a chiropractor for more than 35 years, caring for individuals and families-often across multiple generations-with compassion and dedication. After more than a decade of full-time missionary service, he returned to Magrath and worked as a realtor alongside his cousin, James Anderson, and later Jennifer Sabey, continuing his lifelong pattern of connection and service to the community.
Those who knew Alan will remember his deep and abiding faith, his courageous and steady leadership, and his genuine love of people. He lived with purpose and gratitude, firmly believing that families are eternal and that service to others is love in action. His life stands as a testament to enduring discipleship, civic responsibility, goodness, and unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.
