DAN EAGLE CHILD “Pattsikansayi” passed away on June 8, 2020 at the Kainai Continuing Care Centre peacefully at the age of 90. He will be greatly missed by his children, Tina Eagle Child, Fanny Eagle Child, Jonathan Eagle Child, Lynn Eagle Child, and Danny Eagle Child. Dan has 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Dan is survived by his children: Tina, Fanny, Jonathan, Lynn, Danny and brother Martin and sister Sylvia Hoeven. Dan was predeceased by his parents: Tom Eagle Child and Fanny Pace; wife Elsie, sons Darcy and Joey, grandsons Todd, Nolan, Kyle and great grandchild Chanelle, Dan’s brothers Pat, Jim, Albert, Thomas, and sisters Josephine Dan, Margaret Iron Shirt, Francis Healy, Phyllis Bennett. Dan’s extended families are: Paces’, Many Fingers, Bloods, Bruised Heads, Devereaus’, Blacks, Big Eyes, Cross Childs, Bull Shields, Healys, White Elks, Red Guns, Little Lights, Royals , Smiths. Dan has many nieces, nephews and godson, Slade No Runner who were very fond of him. Dan was raised on the Blood Reserve. His maternal grandparents were Fred Pace an Englishman and Holy Bear Woman. His paternal grandparents were Piitapoka and Otahkoinisskimm, Sundance Okan. He learned the traditional ways from grandmothers. He helped at the Sundance putting up and taking down tipis, gathered wood for the fire, helped as a fire keeper, became the Elders errand boy. Dan knows Sundance, Handgames and Pow Wow songs. He speaks fluent Blackfoot and a good story teller. He was not a home body, he was a hard working man. In his younger days he travelled thorough out the USA looking for work, he worked at a Horse Ranch in Bishop, California. This is where he learned how to break in horses and continued breaking horses for the Blood Tribe cowboys until he couldn’t anymore way into his 70’s. His passion was a horseman, broke his own horses, took care of them and join the rodeo as a team roper. He built his own corrals and are still standing on the Belly Buttes. Dan worked for the Blood Tribe Band Administration as a security guard, the Blood Tribe Ranch as a rancher, the Blood Tribe Forage plant as a security guard, the Senator Gladstone Hall as carpenter, while living in Edmonton he worked as a carpenter, worked at the Thorlankstore farm and during B.C. apple season he picked apples. Dan has strong work ethics, which his children and grandchildren have inherited. Dan was a kind, gentle man, good story teller and laugh all the time. Many of you will have his funny stories to cherish.
A Wake Service will be held at the Dan Eagle Child residence, Blood Reserve on Sunday, June 14th at 7:00 p.m continuing all night. The Funeral Service will continue at the Eagle Child residence beginning at 11:00 am on Monday, June 15th. Interment in the Eagle Child Cemetery.
