Abbie Eagle Speaker passed away in Vancouver on September 25th, 2023, at the age of 59 years. Abbie was born December 14th, 1964, in Cardston, Alberta to Orton and Pauline (Bastine) Eagle Speaker.
Abbie worked for Crabtree for 17 years, she was a vital part of Crabtree and created long lasting supportive relationships with coworkers and other members in her FASD and grandmothers’ groups. Abbie was a part of the FASD group and later went on to become the facilitator for the group. All the mothers in the group felt safe with her; there was never any judgment, just compassion and willingness to share what she knew about FASD.
In her early years, Abbie was an explorer and traveller, she loved to see the world and try new things. Abbie loved being a mother and a grandma, she adored her children and grandkids and spent as much time with them as she could these were times she most looked forward to and cherished. Abbie loved her family. She will be best remembered for her giving nature. She was always volunteering for one task or another, and cooked continually, feeding not only her family but neighbours, friends, and the community. Anyone who was ever fed by Abbie will remember her as an amazing cook.
Abbie was a resilient strong woman and faced many challenges in her life, but she always made it through; she always said to herself and her children, “This too shall pass.” It always did pass, and it always made her that much stronger. She taught everyone around her how to love, be understanding, and to make people feel seen.
Abbie will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.
Abbie is survived by her brother Seymore Eagle Speaker; sons Rainy (Jodi) Eagle Speaker and Quoc (Dominica) Eagle Speaker and her daughters, Sandy Eagle Speaker, Mai Eagle Speaker, Quyentess To-Eagle Speaker, Toby To-Eagle Speaker, Annabelle To-Eagle Speaker and Issabelle To-Eagle Speaker, and her grandchildren Olivia Eagle Speaker, RJay Eagle Speaker, Skyla Eagle Speaker, Bella Eagle Speaker, Revan Eagle Speaker, Aaliyah Eagle Speaker, Daniel Eagle Speaker, Mya Eagle Speaker, Hayden Bruised Head, Cali Astells, Alexis Astells, Gia Astells, Arraya Eagle Speaker.
