Marlin was a very loving man, he poured his whole heart into his family, he will be sadly missed by all his grandchildren. He taught them how to powwow sing and dance. They had occasional powwow sessions in their home. He sang and drummed while they each grabbed a shawl and danced. Even the baby grandchild would dance in his walker. Marlin took his children and grandchildren everywhere and taught them how to travel–powwow style. Picnics, fireworks and sundance were a must, along with swimming and the Calgary Zoo. He made sure his family knew how much they were loved and needed. There were other areas of Marlin’s life that he was devoted to: traditional Blackfoot dancing, sports and the Lakota-Sioux Sundance way of life. As a Blackfoot traditional dancer he traveled all over the U.S. and Canada, winning numerous powwow contests. He met a lot of his close friends on the powwow trail. And he traveled to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Oklahoma, New Mexico, California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, B.C. , Saskatchewan and Manitoba. On his travels he met the Dalai Lama in Australia and the King and Queen of Sweden in Seattle, Washington. Marlin’s favorite sports teams were the Calgary Flames and the Seattle Seahawks, He was an avid fan of Superbowl at his mom’s house and Sunday Night football, basketball and hockey programs alongside Sean Davis, his in-law. They read and memorized sports teams, players and sports statistics like you read the daily newspaper! He also loved reading comic books. And was always in search of the biggest hamburger he could find; he once found a hamburger as big as a frisbee, frisbee included. He knew the biggest hamburger existed. He was also devoted to his commitment as a Lakota-Sioux Sundancer, having completed his 4 year pledge to become a pipe holder. Marlin was the first person in his Eagle Speaker family to Sundance at the Morris Crow Sundance on the Blood Reserve–his siblings followed him by pledging and completing their 4 year pledges. Marlin was the baby of the family – his older siblings felt fortunate to being older than Marlin. They got to spoil and enjoy him throughout his life. He loved everyone, and now he begins his journey to be with the Creator and to help where he’s needed as a Sundancer.
