DARRELL WILLIAM EDWARDS was born September 26, 1953, in Yallourn, New South Wales, Australia. He was the fifth of eight children born to George Edwards and Dorothy June Clements. As an infant, he immigrated to Canada with his family, where he would spend the rest of his life building deep roots and lasting connections.
Darrell married his forever sweetheart Janet in 1978, and together they began their marriage in Wrentham, AB. They spent a few years farming and working in High Prairie AB, where they were busy raising their young family. In 1990, they moved to Glenwood, Alberta, where he lived until his passing at the age of 72.
Darrell was a man of few words, but the kind you could always count on. He had a calm and steady presence and carried a quiet peace that people felt when they were around him. He cared deeply for others and was always willing to help, especially when it came to his family.
He loved serving his family, his community, and his church. He was a man of deep faith and strong convictions.He was well known for his work grading roads for the county, a job he took pride in and did with care for many years. He was respected by so many, not for being loud, but for being consistent, kind, and dependable.
He enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved farming and spending time outside, and he especially loved riding his lawn tractor mowing the lawn in the summer. Being “Papa” was one of his favourite roles, and one he carried with so much love.
He will be deeply missed as a husband, father, Papa, and friend. There will always be a space in our hearts that only he could fill.
Darrell is survived by his wife Janet and their six children, Rochelle (Dru), Jodi (Craig), Blair (Hydee), Derek (Kamarie), Shane (Nadene), and Darilyn (Daniel). He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren who will miss their Papa dearly.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glenwood, AB. Friends may meet the family from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
