
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kerry First Charger, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Kerry passed away suddenly on February 15, 2025, at the age of 65. With fond memories we appreciate the times and years we’ve had together.
Kerry’s story starts on February 19, 1959. He was born in Cardston, Alberta to Bertha Flying About and Bob First Charger. He grew up in a loving home on the Blood Reserve surrounded by his twelve siblings. He attended school in Magrath, Cardston, Calgary and Lethbridge College.
In his younger years he enjoyed playing and spending time outdoors with his many siblings. He grew up in the St. Mary’s Dam area and spent countless hours playing and going on many fun adventures with his St. Mary’s dam friends, relatives and neighbours. He enjoyed horseback riding and watching hockey with his friends. He enjoyed the sport of rodeo and participated in steer riding in his younger years. As a teen, he worked with Leo Red Crow (McHugh) doing farm work at Blood Tribe Farms.
In his teens he met Joanne. They fell in love, and he married Joanne, the love of his life. He was blessed with a loving and beautiful marriage of 44 years. They started a family, complete with Levi, Sonny and Stacey. His biggest passion in life was his children, grandchildren and loving wife Joanne. Together they shared an inseparable bond and created a life filled with beautiful memories.
Kerry grew up on the Blood Reserve and moved to Calgary, Alberta where he raised his family. In his early twenties he pursued a career in construction as a framer, where his passion for the industry grew for over three decades. He worked throughout Calgary as a framer. He was a kind and caring man who devoted his time to his family, working hard to provide for them. Outside of work, Kerry was a big hockey fan and was an avid Calgary Flames supporter. As a hockey fan, he taught his kids many things including how to skate. His youngest son Sonny subsequently became a proficient skater.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Kerry are his predeceased parents Bertha Flying About, his father Bob First Charger, predeceased siblings: Margaret, Genevieve, Theresa, Verna, Nadine, Stella, Jerry, Joe Crow and Alice Klein. Kerry’s maternal mother was a part of the Aakapokaiksi Many Children or I’naksiiksi Small Blankets Clan and his father Bob First Charger is a part of the Pottstakiiksi Tea Drinking or Aisspahkomiksi Shoot up Clan. Old man First Charger’s (Iikamo’tstso) father is Sheep Old Man (Iimahkihkinaapi), and his brother was Chief Red Crow his kinship is the Mamioyiiksi Fish Eaters Clan.
Leaving to mourn with fond and beautiful memories are his wife of 44 years, Joanne First Charger; sons, Levi, Sonny and daughter Stacey, his grandchildren: Tristin, Aisten, Trinity, Austin, Kierra, Angelina, Dillon, Jordan, Drea and Leah; his surviving siblings Francis (Judy), Robert, Brian (Michele), his sisters Agnes, Veronica, Roberta, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His presence will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Kerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend to many. Kerry was a kind and caring man, who was devoted to his family. He lived a full and productive life; he was a caring person who touched the lives of all who knew him. He always had a smile and would talk to whomever he met. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family. His home was always filled with love and happiness. He loved his wife, his children and grandchildren. His memory will continue to live on with his children and grandchildren.
A wake service will be held at the Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston, Alberta on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A funeral service will also be at Legacy Funeral Home on Thursday, February 27 at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Pioneer cemetery, Blood Reserve.
