CLIVE “COWBOY” FIRST RIDER, husband of Pearline Heavy Runner, passed away in Cardston on June 30, 2017 at the age of 84.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, husband, uncle, brother CLIVE "COWBOY" FIRST RIDER. Clive was born to the late George and Jane First Rider on April 30, 1933 at the Blood Indian Hospital and passed away June 29, 2017 surrounded by family at the Cardston Hospital.
Clive was 84 years old at the time of his passing and is survived by his children, Arnold (Darlene) Crying Head, Sharon (Wesley) Heavy Runner, Joyce First Rider, Clyde (Dawn) First Rider, Karen (Darryl) First Rider, Sam (Tammy) First Rider. Clive has 25 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren with two more on the way. Clive also leaves to mourn his common-law wife Pearline Heavy Runner and step children Pavla (Kevin) Atwood, Rudy (Glenda) Heavy Runner , Peter (Patty) Heavy Runner, 5 grandchildren and special adopted grandson Nolan Heavy Runner. Clive also leaves his siblings Mary First Rider, Roseabelle (Kenny) Tyson, Nora First Rider, Irvin (Ramona) First Rider.
Clive enjoyed working with horses and was a ranch hand throughout southern alberta. He was from the Anglican Church respecting our traditional ways and enjoyed the full gospel church. Clive attended the St. Paul's residential school. Clive competed in the Calgary Stampede Rodeo and is a member of the IRCA. Clive was a loving father and grandfather who liked to joke around and make people laugh. In his later years Clive enoyed playing bingo and slots. Clive was predeceased by his parents George and Jane First Rider his siblings Jocelyn First Rider, Meridan Turner, Herbert First Rider, Randolph First Rider, Edward First Rider and adopted sibling Dan North Peigan. Nieces Esther, Mamie Jane and nephew Sylvester grandchildren Wendall Crying Head, Ryan First Rider, Avery First Rider and Courtney First Rider.
Clive will be sadly missed by his family and forever remembered in our hearts. We would also like to thank Dr. Leavitt and all the staff at the Long Term Care in Cardston.
A Family Service will be at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Wednesday, July 5th from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Blood Reserve on Thursday, July 6th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
