Kimberly Nicole Gros Ventre Boy
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and common law spouse on December 3, 2022, in Edmonton, Alberta surrounded by family. Kim was born on April 19, 1985, in Cardston, Alberta.
Kim leaves behind her only son Leland Gros Ventre Boy, Common-law spouse Tommy Soop Sr., Parents Stan and Rose Hairy Bull and Biological father, Horace Shouting. Siblings Charlotte (Jimmy) Chief Moon, Queenie Hairy Bull, Chelsea (Mason) Cross Child, Nakoda (Aaliyah) Hairy Bull, Todd, Nora, and Cammie Across The Mountain. Uncles Donald (Joyce) Wolf Child, Harrison (Lorraine) and adopted uncles Robert Gros Ventre Boy and Ivan Singer. Aunties Sylvia, Molly, Margaret Gros Ventre Boy, and Christine (Bobby) Healy. Nephews; Tavares, Kyrie, and Desai. Nieces; Destinee, Brielle, and Riyah.
Kim attended school at Levern Elementary School, Glenwood Elementary School, Tatsikiisaapo’p Middle School, and Kainai high school. In her younger years, Kim lived at her grandmother’s house with her mother and sister. There she spent many hours playing outside with her cousins; they kept themselves occupied with building things and exploring their surroundings. Kim had a very close bond with her cousins; she took many of them as her siblings.
Kim was introduced to motherhood when her precious son, Leland was born on January 30, 2011. The day Kim was notified that she was expecting was filled with pure joy. Kim could not wait to become a mother and raise a child of her own. Leland, as a child, was
required to attend appointments in Calgary at the Children’s Hospital where Kim would never leave his side. Kim made sure to spoil her baby boy and remained present when trials came their way. Kim loved her role as Leland’s mother; even in her absence she made sure all his necessities were met and taken care of. On April 28, 2022, Kim welcomed her baby girl Gracie. Kim was so in love with her baby girl, and could not get over how cute and adorable she was. Although Gracie’s time with us was very short, she made a huge impact on all who knew her. Kim mourned the loss of her baby girl up until her passing. She would often talk about Gracie and say how much she missed her.
Kim was such a kind, loving person; everyone who knew her enjoyed her company and welcomed her at any given time. Kim was cherished by numerous relatives and friends that loved her dearly. Kim’s motherly instincts could be seen as well during the time she shared with her nieces and nephews. Kim was very fortunate to have such an inseparable relationship with her mother, Rose. When Kim would develop a sudden craving for Bannock or frybread, Rose was quick to cook up a batch. Kim would treasure each moment she spent with Rose; reminiscing, sharing stories, and laughing until their eyes would water. Together they shared their own unique humour. Kim made sure to remind Rose that she loved her and would hug her before she left. If Kim needed a listening ear to confide in, she would go directly to her mom for her sound advice.
Kim shared such a close bond with Grandma Mary Rose. Mary Rose only spoke Blackfoot, so Kim would often become her grand mother’s translator when they were together. During her visits to Mary Rose’s house, Kim always made sure her grandma’s house was clean and tidy. Their visits would consist of sitting in the living room, conversing, and simply joking around. Drives were a big thing that they both enjoyed and can drive for hours. On one occasion, the family tried to reach grandma but were not successful. A couple hours had passed, then they both pulled up in grandma’s SUV. Although grandma was getting older, Kim kept her young. Together they helped each other enjoy life’s simplest times. Kim was known as “Miistsis” to Mary Rose.
Kim was the eldest of five children, and always encouraged her siblings to do right. Kim’s baby brother Nakoda, as a newborn, was highly adored by her. She would smother him with love and hold him as he slept. Rose would have to remind Kim to let him sleep, but Kim refused. They also shared a birthday, which they would always celebrate together. When all five siblings were together, there was sure to be lots of joking and big aunty laughs. Kim loved all her siblings and no matter how old they were, she always made sure to get them a gift on their birthday.
Kim met Tommy later in life, and they shared a special bond. Tommy taught Kim many things, including construction and carpentry work. When Stan & Rose’s home required servicing, Tommy was offered the job. The renovation gave Kim an opportunity to express her productive side. Kim had her own pouch and learned quickly how to operate the tools. Kim took pride in her newfound hobby and sent pictures to the family of her handiwork. Aside from working together with Tommy, Kim grew a close friendship with Tommy’s kids and children. When Kim needed help with just about anything the kids were quick to respond.
Kim was predeceased by her two daughters, Rose Mary, and Gracie Soop. Grandmother Mary Rose Gros Ventre Boy. Uncles; Leonard, Tex Gros Ventre Boy, and Auntie Pauline Curly Rider. Cousins; Courtney and Cameron Gros Ventre Boy, Brandon Crying Head and Ty Chief Moon.
