While on a vacation in southern Alberta she met her second husband, Joseph LaBoucane. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Ian.
Also during this time she met Trevor and Mildred Hamon. The families became best friends across the years. When her marriage to Joseph ended in divorce, Marlene and her children moved back to the United States.

Together she and Trevor served as a missionary couple in the Cook Islands, in Papua New Guinea and with the Lamanite Branch in Glenwood.
Marlene took great pride in her extended family. She kept a close count of all the kids, grandkids, great grandkids and great, great grandkids, and she enjoyed their visits and the phone calls and the times they shared together.
