Dec 23 was the date Waylon was to arrive in the world. However, on his own time, two weeks later, in the early evening of January. 13, 1979, Waylon was born. He was a whopping 10.5-pound baby, with long eyelashes, chubby cheeks, and a beautiful crown of thick black hair. He sure was the cutest baby ever.
In his youth, he enjoyed riding motorbikes fast and free across the reserve. In later years, for sport, he would outrun the B.T.P. on dirt bike or his sport quad. At other times he would turn his family or friends into get-away drivers, including his grandmother, Agness. Waylon was famously known by both RCMP and Blood Tribe Police, with his countless times eluding them. At the Sundance, while sitting with family inside the teepee of Richard and Lila. The door flipped half open and a inside stepped a leg dressed in black pants and single yellow strip running down the side. Resembling the pants of the RCMP. Everyone in the tepee fell silent as they watched who was walking in. Waylon sitting straight across the door, gasp loudly and long. In one swooping motion our cousin Dawn stood up, it was her walking in. Everyone laughed because of Waylon’s reaction.
Waylon was Mr. Clean, always cleaning his moms, grandpas, and aunties home’s including bleaching the walls with his younger cousin Christine. When gathered at the family home, Waylon would be the storyteller to his younger cousins. He would share all the Tabloid News about aliens, bigfoot, and other strange events. He would state “Hey, Dion?” and Dion would nod to affirm with a “yep!” Moreover, Waylon would also be the terror, chasing around the younger children with his eyelids flipped over.
Waylon, you’ll be sadly missed with all your craziness that was just your natural way.
A Wake Service will be held at the Moses Lake Community Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Monday, February 19, 2024 from 7:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Blood Reserve on Tuesday, February 20 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place in the Heavy Head Cemetery.
