PEARLINE HEAVY RUNNER
December 4, 1956 – December 15, 2024
December 4, 1956 – December 15, 2024

God saw you getting tired, so he put his arms around you and whispered “come to me my child.” With tearful eyes and sorrowful hearts, we watched you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, your loving hands at rest. It’s lonesome here without you and life doesn’t seem the same. Each time we look at your picture, you seem to smile and say “I’m in God’s arms now… And don’t forget to pray.”
Pearline Heavy Runner
She was born Tuesday, December 4, 1956 and sadly passed away on the Lord’s day Sunday, December 15, 2024. She spent most of her life in Cardston, Alberta, where she was born. She went to St. Mary’s residential school until the passing of her mother Grace Heavy Runner in 1970. She then helped her father Lester Heavy Runner raise her younger siblings whom she treated as her own children. She met her spouse Peter Strangling Wolf in 1970. She enjoyed going to see his band Cha-coa and loved to dance to his music. Together they had four children Pav, Rudy, Raquel and baby Peter. After 20 years together, they went their separate ways, but remained friends. She later met and fell in love with Clive First Rider, whom she was with until his passing in 2017.
Pearline loved cooking and was especially known for her delicious fry bread. She enjoyed watching scary movies, hosting family get togethers, and ensuring everyone felt welcome and cared for. She was incredibly generous, always ready to help family members in need. She also took pride in dressing up, wearing beautiful clothing that reflected her vibrant spirit.
We grew up, watching our mother handle the obstacles life put in her way, and she went through some really difficult times. Despite this, she got up every day and was there to raise her family. We didn’t have everything we wanted, but she always made sure we had everything we needed. This was our mama.
Pearline is survived by her children: Pav (Kevin) Atwood and Rudy (Tammy) Strangling Wolf. Her grandchildren: Stevie-Ray and Shelby, Nolan, Luke and Josh, and Cheyanne. Her siblings: Agnes, Noreen, Marlene (Tom), Les, Wes (Sharon), Tonya, and Colleen. Half siblings: Mary Ann Buckskin, Delphine Smalleyes, Sandra Shade and Curtis Tailfeathers. Her aunties: Christine Shade, May Singer, Rose Marie Red Gun, and Daisy Smith.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lester and Grace Heavy Runner, her precious daughter Raquel in 2005, her precious son Peter Jr. in 2019, and her loving spouse Clive First Rider in 2017. She was a wonderful mama, granny, sister, and friend. She will forever be missed and always in our hearts.
A Wake Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, SOUTH HILL Chapel (950 Main St.) Cardston, AB on Sunday, December 22 from 6:00 – 11:00 pm. The Funeral Service will also be held at the South Hill Chapel on Monday, December 23 at 12:00 pm. The interment will follow in the Good Rider Cemetery, Blood Reserve. The family would like to thank the staff at the Kainai continuing care centre and the Cardston Hospital for all of mom’s care.
