It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Father, Brother, Uncle, Son and Grandpa, RUDY MORTON HEAVY SHIELDS. Rudy was born at the Blood Indian Hospital on September 22, 1964; at the age of 55 years old. He passed away on July 8, 2020 at the Cardston Hospital. Rudy is survived by his children: RJ Heavy Shields (Charmaine), Cody Fox (Mary), Shaw Scout (Bailey), Arlene ATM, and Todd ATM; his father: Ed Heavy Shields (Deanna); his grandchildren: Cohen, Paisley, Conner, Callie, Weston, Marie, JR, Aiden, Kodi Bree, Fallyn, Hayden, Eddie, Khyler, Kip Roze, Larrissa, Tanita, Otis, Silver and Marley; his siblings: Les (Emily) Heavy Shields, Darlene (Jim) Plume, Twylla Joy (Lance) Little Shields, Paul (Nadine) Good Striker, and Kenny Weasel Head; his second mom: Emily (Muggs) Good Striker; and his bestfriend/brother: Duke (Irma) Rabbit. He was predeceased by his mother: Marion Rose Heavy Shields; his brother: Murray Heavy Shields; his sister: Gina Heavy Shields; and his grandparents: Frank and Beatrice Good Striker, Eddie and Adelaide Heavy Shields. Rudy attended Cardston Elementary and High School. Rudy excelled in the sport of Hockey and Rodeo. His hockey career was spent playing in Kainai Minor Hockey, Jr. B – Golden Chief, Braves, Chiefs and Bandits to name a few. Rudy’s love for Rodeo saw him at many High School Champion finals as well as the IRCA Rodeo. Rudy’s employment included; Blood Tribe Recreation – Minor Hockey Co-ordinator and Ice Maker. Rudy truly loved this type of work as he was able to work with children as this was one of Rudy’s passions. Rudy’s current employment was with the Blood Tribe Public Works as Road Surveyor and he was very proud to obtain a long term employment award in 2018 for his 20 years of service. Rudy’s greatest passion and love were his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and most recently his great nieces and nephews. Rudy was the greatest and coolest uncle and had a special place in his heart for them. He made every effort to attend their school sports whether it was hockey or basketball. Rudy we will miss you and you will forever remain in our hearts. Rudy’s last few years were spent in and out of the hospital and we would like to thank Dr. Clarke, Ivona Roe and the Cardston Hospital Staff for the excellent care they provided to Rudy during his many stays at the hospital.
A Wake Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Tuesday, July 14th, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 15th, from 9:30 - 11:00 with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00 am. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
