HIRSCH
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Dad , Husband and Grandfather, DEZSO MATYAS “DAN” HIRSCH. Dad was born in Budapest Hungary on August 27, 1932 to the late John Hirsch and Elizabeth Fekete. In 1956 due to the Hungarian Revolution Dad fled his worn torn homeland, and emigrated to Canada. In 1960 Dad met the love of his life Beatrice Curly Rider at the old Lethbridge College. Dad was going to school to learn English while Mom was taking upgrading. A friend of Moms introduced her to Dad, and from there their love for each other began. Dad is survived by his loving children Sharon ( Scott), Sandra ( Pete), Glenda ( Richard), Danny, Darren ( Lisa), and Benita, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.Although Dad came to Canada alone he descended 51 dependents. He is also survived by his in-laws the Curly Riders, Chief Moons and Gros Ventre Boy families. In Dads early years he worked in the Coal Mines Crowsnest Pass, Sulpher Plant near Hillspring , Waterton Dam, Trailor Factory Fort Macleod, and was self employed till his retirement. Dad was a Jack of All Trades. He was an Electrician, Mechanic, Plumber, Carpenter, Gardener, Farmer and Chef. Dad was a great cook and every time he cooked it was a treat. He made the best Cabbage Rolls, Stuffed Peppers, Chicken Paprikash, Palascinta, and many other Hungarian dishes. We never had to take our vehicles to the mechanic shops because Dad always fixed them for us. Dad loved fishing, traveling, and had a big passion for gardening. Dad had the biggest garden in Glenwood, and at harvest time he shared his vegetables with all of us. Dad loved taking Mom and his children to camp meetings, and loved to video record the services. At one time Dad sang in church and had an amazing voice. He also played the Accordion, Keyboard, and Harmonica. We inherited all our musical talent from Dad. Dad was a Semi Professional Soccer Player, Professional Dancer, and was a Private in the Hungarian Army. Back home in Hungary Dads family owed Vineyards, and Orchards. He always told us how beautiful his Country was. and said that there were many beautiful Cherry trees. He built his own Ham Radios, and his CB name was Apache. To this day the Hutterites still call him Apache. Dad built a big tower by the house and was able to talk to different people all over the world from his CB radio. Dad could sit by the lake for hours trying to catch a fish. He raised pigs and chickens, and was the best Daddy to his dog Scoob. Dad loved his dog so much and was heartbroken when she passed away. He never ever got another dog. We are going to miss Dad being at our family gatherings. We celebrated his birthday every year, and last year we celebrated Mom and Dads 59th wedding anniversary. We thank God that he gave us another year with Dad, and we thank him for all the 87 years he blessed Dad with. We are going to miss you, and family gatherings will never be the same. We will miss your Cabbage Rolls, but you have passed on your recipes to your children. We will continue on with your Hungarian Traditions Dad, and always remember that we love you. No one will ever compare to you. You were the best Dad. Please continue watching over Mom because you loved her and took such good care of her. Also watch over your children and grandchildren that we may be safe. Till we meet again. We the Hirsch family like to thank his doctors, nursing staff at Cardston Hospital for taking care of Dad during his illnesses. We also thank Legacy Funeral Home for their services.
