Donald Leslie Homan was born on October 3, 1935 in Coronation, Alberta to William and Azie Homan. They lived in Ponoka, Stettler and Veteran, where Don met Ivy and they were married in 1955. In 1956, their first of four daughters, Georgia, was born. Debbie followed in 1957, Barb in 1959 and Connie in 1963. Les was born in 1967 and Lorne in 1969, completing the family of six children. In 1970, the family moved from Veteran to Cereal, where they lived for two years, before moving to Calgary in 1972. In 1980, Don, Ivy, Connie, Les and Lorne moved north to the Peace River country. As empty nesters, Don and Ivy planned and built a log home on their own, which home they took great pride in. In Don’s early years, he worked on a seismic crew in Alberta and British Columbia. When the family started growing, he worked with his father running a trucking company in Veteran, then a local garage. When he moved to Cereal, he started long haul trucking, which he loved for many years and continued driving the big rigs when they moved to Calgary. When he moved to the Peace Country, he traded in the big rig for a school bus, and he and Ivy raised Hereford cattle, along with other various farm animals. Once retired, Don and Ivy travelled to many places, including all parts of Canada, the USA, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and a few cruises.
Throughout their marriage, Don and Ivy enjoyed socializing, dining and dancing and continued that passion while they physically could. Music was always a part of their home. Another huge passion was rodeos, taking their kids to all local rodeos and once the kids were grown, they continued to attend any rodeos or stampedes they could, even taking in the Canadian Finals Rodeo and on at least one occasion, the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Don passed away peacefully in Lee Crest, Cardston, Alberta on June 18, 2026.
He is survived by the love of his life, Ivy, and his daughters, Georgia (Ray), Debbie (Jerry), Barb, Connie (Dale), daughters-in-law, Jenny and Mira, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Azie, his siblings, Margaret, David and Darlene, his sons, Les and Lorne, sons-in-law, Mike, Odean and Al, and great-grandson, TJ.
