BERNARD ROY “BERNIE” HULL, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 82 years. He was born October 17, 1943, in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, to Roy Wilmot and Elizabeth Ellen (Harker) Hull, and was the youngest of seven siblings: George (Mabel) Hull, Norman (Catherine) Hull, Mary (Arden) Draper, Winifred Hull, Audrey (Eric) Creber, and Maurine (Preston) Johnson.
Bernie completed his primary and secondary education in Cardston and attended Lethbridge Junior College for a year. He then served a served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Navajo Nation in Arizona—an experience he treasured throughout his life. He developed a deep love for the Navajo people and spoke fondly of his time among them.
Following his mission, Bernie earned a Bachelor of Science in math with a minor in chemistry from the University of Alberta and later completed a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge. He then devoted 25 years to teaching high school chemistry and math in towns in Alberta such as Manyberries, Ellerslie, Warner, and Cardston. A dedicated educator, he had the privilege of teaching countless students over the years, including his own children, nieces, and nephews.
On September 10, 1966, Bernie married Dawn Adele Wight in the Cardston, Alberta Temple. They built a wonderful life over 38 years together until Dawn passed away from leukemia on May 19, 2005. Bernie was blessed to later reconnect with his former classmate, Charlene Walker, and they shared 21 supportive and loving years of marriage until his passing.
Bernie had many interests and talents. He was a master gardener and accomplished artist—whatever he set his mind to he could do well. He was also a jack-of-all-trades, and had the uncanny ability to fix anything, whether it was a washer or dryer, dishwasher, blow dryer, or lawn mower. After retiring from teaching, he raised Shetland sheepdogs, and also fulfilled his dream of becoming a sheep farmer, where he enjoyed spending long hours caring for all 200 of them on his beloved acreage in Aetna. Always a teacher at heart, even though his body started to feel the effects of his age, he was happy to help the college students in his family with math and chemistry problems right until the end of his life.
Bernie was a quiet man of faith who loved the Lord, and was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved and cherished his family, often spending hours helping and serving them in any way he could. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; sister, Maurine Johnson; two children, Katrina (McRay) Murdock, and Ben Hull; and six grandchildren: Mackenzy, Brig, Jackson, and Hunter Murdock; Caesar and Sophie Hull.
He is also survived by Charlene’s children: Cari Conrad, Audrey (Jeff) Salmon, and James Conrad; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Tyler) Parker, Matthew Jackson, Stephanie, Nicole, and Natalie Wilcox, Cheyenne (Shawn Daye-Finley) Conrad, and Jayden (Michael Curry) Rushton; 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife, Dawn Wight; his parents, Roy and Elizabeth Hull; and his siblings, George Hull, Mary Draper, Norman Hull, Winifred Hull, and Audrey Creber; their spouses, Mabel Hull, Arden Draper, Catherine Hull, Eric Creber, and Preston Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Evie Parker.
