Catherine Teresa ‘Katie’ Jasperson, beloved wife of the late Roy Jasperson, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, friends and loved ones on Saturday, Feb 21, 2026, in Cardston Alberta, at the age of 89 years.

Born in the Highlands of Scotland on August 16, 1936, Katie was raised with a large family - the youngest of 8 children - in a small modest home with much love and a hard-work ethic. Her younger years were survived through the second world war, where an uncertain future became part of her childhood and daily life. She often went to school with a gas mask in hand and air raid drills being a constant reminder of the state of the world. She continued her education and graduated high school; quickly deciding to go into nursing, she enrolled in the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh, Scotland. While finishing her studies and midwifery practicum, she decided to pursue travel nursing; she had a gift of calming people with simple words or a touch and wanted to spread that as much as she could. She decided to go to Canada and ended up working in Toronto, before making her way to Calgary, Fort Macleod and then Cardston, where she had intended to stay only a short time before making her way to Australia … that never happened.

She met the love of her life, Roy Frederick Jasperson in Cardston and decided that was where she wanted to stay and raise her family. They were married in Roybridge, Scotland on Nov 23, 1963 and quickly got started raising their family and working on the farm near Woolford. While having her children and raising a family, Katie never stopped working as an RN and was an enormous part of helping the community through her volunteer service.

In time, the farm was sold as Katie’s husband Roy was diagnosed with MS and his health began to decline. They decided to build a motel in Cardston, while she continued nursing and raising the children. Soon the motel proved to be too much to handle and it was sold in 1985.

With their children having reached adulthood, Roy’s health took a turn for the worse and he died on November 18, 1992. Katie continued as a nurse, giving hope to so many people while they struggled with illness. Her hands and voice continued to be calming to everyone in need.

Katie retired from nursing in 2005 and continued to perform volunteer work in the community right up till she could not make her way any longer. In her final years, the community that she cared for over many years cared for her during her stay at Lee Crest. Her presence will be deeply missed and her legacy will continue for years to come.

She is survived by her 7 children, Alan (Verna), Brian (Tamara), Jennifer, Frank (Jenn), Duane (Lisa), Donald (Christine), Justin (Jinjer). She had 10 grandchildren: Marcus (Lisa), Darcy (Sara), Janay (Jono), Hallie (Parker), Darby, Nathan, Chance, Cody (Kendra), Clay (Erika), Cruz and 6 Great Grandchildren: Aiva, Alex, Shane, Thomas, Oaklyn, Stockton. Katie also leaves to mourn her best friend for life Mary MacFarland with whom she worked many years at the Cardston Hospital and Grandview Nursing home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Low – her colleague and physician – as well as Dr. Cole Leavitt, for their many years treating mom. We would also like to thank the staff of Lee Crest for their devoted care.

Friends may meet the family at the South Hill Chapel, (950 Main Street), Cardston, on Saturday, February 28th from 10:00 - 10:45 am. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Matt Deneault officiating.  Interment to follow in the Cardston Cemetery.

Funeral will be uploaded and available to watch following the Service
