Gayle Kaye Jensen, beloved wife of Reed Wayne Jensen, passed away peacefully in Cardston, AB, on Monday, March 25th, 2024 at the age of 74 years.
Gayle was born in Cardston, AB, on July 15, 1949 to Varion LaMont Broadhead and Norma Louise (Strate) Broadhead. She was the oldest of three daughters: Gayle Kaye, Joan Marie Forsyth (deceased), Jeanne Lynn Heggie.
Growing up in Mountain View with Old Chief as the backdrop of her childhood playground, Gayle quickly became a true country girl at heart. Mt. View was truly a little piece of heaven on earth for Gayle. She enjoyed a childhood full of so many opportunities to run free, explore surroundings, ride her horse, tend to animals and spend hours with family and friends on many outdoor adventures. Gayle attended the Mountain View School for grades 1-9 with many of her lifelong friends. She had fond memories of participating in the annual Christmas Program and later in life, enjoyed watching programs with her own children and now grandchildren.
One of the highlights of Gayle’s youth was spending summers in Waterton. While Gayle’s father LaMont was employed as a Warden for Parks Canada, an opportunity to run Cameron Lakes emerged. The family moved to Cameron for nine years during the summer months while LaMont and Norma worked as the Head Caretakers. As Gayle grew, she was able to work cleaning cabins and her younger sisters managed the boat concession for the Baker’s. This was a special time for the Broadhead family. They not only worked hard as a family, but they played hard and made lasting memories hiking, boating, picnicking and hosting family and friends who visited often.
Gayle graduated from the Cardston High School and then attended Nursing School in Calgary where she graduated as an RNA. She worked at the Cardston Hospital upon her graduation. On March 29, 1969, she married Reed Wayne Jensen in the Cardston, Alberta Temple.
After the birth of their first child Sherri Lynn, she transitioned to working at the Cardston Clinic. After some time, it became apparent that being a wife and mother was her desired life’s role. Gayle became a stay-at-home mother and welcomed their second child, Sandra Kaye to the world. Two more children were born to the Jensen family: Roxanne and finally a much-welcomed son, Rockwell Wayne. Gayle’s life was dedicated to her husband and four children, and they had the same wonderful life living in Mountain View on the homestead that they purchased from Gayle’s parents.
Gayle has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life and served her Father in Heaven faithfully. She grew personally in callings within the Primary, Relief Society, Sunday School and as the Stake Nursery Leader. She loved her years in the primary and had a special place in her heart for all the children. Gayle had an unwavering devotion to her family, friends, neighbors and loved all people unconditionally. Her testimony was rooted in the love of her Savior, and her humility and goodness were seen and felt by all that knew and loved her.
Gayle will be greatly missed by her husband Reed of 55 years and their four children: Sherri Leavitt of Lethbridge, Sandi (Tasi) Letioa of Mountain View, Roxi Day Chief of Mountain View and Rocky (Shanna) Jensen of Cardston; 9 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, La Mont & Norma Broadhead, her sister (Joan Forsyth), brother-in-law (Randy Forsyth), as well as many other family members and dear friends she had throughout her life. We know she is having a joyous reunion with all those she loved and missed dearly.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the home care staff, nursing staff at the Cardston Hospital as well as Dr. Richard Low and Dr. Wade Walters for the amazing care she has been given over the last year.
Friends may meet the Family at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Sunday, March 31 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm. Family and close friends will have a Funeral Service at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mountain View, AB on Monday, April 1 at 11:00 am.
