WANDA (WRIGHT) KOLIBAR, beloved wife of Andy Kolibar, passed away in Cardston, Alberta on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at the age of 86 years. Wanda was born on January 19, 1937 in Cardston, Alberta and the 5th child of Cleon J and Martha (Broadbent) Wright. She spent 15 years of her life living in Leavitt Alberta then the family moved to Cardston. Wanda loved music and singing. She and her siblings would sing at many events when she was younger. Her and her brother Theron entered the “Beny’s Talent Show” a show that was broadcast over the radio and they won. There was a recording made of the songs they sang. Her love of singing and music carried on throughout her life.
While Wanda was walking home from work one day, she met her future husband, Andy Kolibar. They were married in Cardston almost a year later on March 30, 1955. Wanda and Andy have 5 children. Bob, Colleen, Kendall, Karen, and Barb.
Wanda worked for a few years at the TD Bank then when Bob was born, she devoted her time being a mother and didn’t work again until the last child was born. She started working as a school librarian for many years. Going from the Jr. High to the elementary school. She loved books and loved children, so this was perfect for her. There are many who will remember her as Mrs. Kolibar the librarian.
Wanda also had a love for baseball which we believe was inherited from her father Cleon who loved to play throughout his life. She used to coach little league when her oldest boy was playing, and she also played on many women’s league teams.
Wanda and Andy also loved to dance. Andy has said that when they would go to a dance they would take off dancing as soon as their feet hit the floor and dance all night. They were involved in many dance festivals and even taught youth how to dance.
Wanda was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served mostly with the youth and children which she loved dearly. Her and Andy also served many years in the Cardston Temple which she cherished and spent hours upon hours doing family history work.
She loved to go camping every summer and they would often do spontaneous trips to the nearby lake and spend the day waterskiing with family and friends. She loved her family and beamed with joy with each grandchild and then each great grandchild who came along. She would make each one feel loved and special.
Wanda is survived by her sweetheart Andy and their 5 children: Bob (Karen) Kolibar, Colleen Leavitt (Khuram Fancy), Kendall (Karen) Kolibar, Karen (Gerald) Bevans and Barb (Jesse) Wilson. 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Also, her siblings Marlene (Keith) Russell, Lois (John) Alexander, Ken (Louise) Wright and Royce (Brenda) Wright.
She has been reunited with her parents and her siblings Lynn, Delynn, Zola and Theron Wright who predeceased her.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Temple Street Chapel, Cardston, Alberta on Monday, March 27th at 11:00 a.m. Friends and relatives may meet the family from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
