Richard Clinton Law (Clinton), born May 5, 1924 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Richard Franklin Law and Sarah Greene Law, passed away on June 15, 2026.
Clinton was the third child of ten. As a young man growing up in Glennwood, Alberta he learned to work hard, run fast, and love fiercely. He grew up working with his dad, hauling milk to Ft. McCloud by horse drawn wagon through all kinds of weather.
From 1945-1947 Clinton served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Eastern Canada.
Shortly after, he immigrated to the United States where he was drafted into the U.S. Army to serve as a mechanic and driver during the Korean War. He completed his service in 1952 as a U.S. Army Corporal.
It was during this time of service that Clinton met his future wife, Thelma Lybbert, at a weekly mutual meeting in Moses Lake, Washington. Thelma attended her first prom with Clinton in the Spring of 1951, and they were married just months later, on November 14, 1951, in the Cardston, Alberta Temple.
They moved to Ft. Lewis, WA, where Clinton finished military service. They welcomed a daughter at the end of 1952, just after he was released from the army.
Clinton and Thelma lived in Moses Lake until 1956 where they gave birth to a daughter and one son before moving to Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada so Clinton could work with his brother, Keith Law, managing the Law Transport Trucking company. During their time in Medicine Hat, Clinton also served as a bishop for their ward in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 1962-1965, and him and Thelma had three more daughters.
In 1965, the family moved to Ephrata, Washington. They helped work the Lybbert Family Farm while Thelma’s father recovered from back surgery, and gave birth to their youngest daughter.
The summer of 1968 Thelma and Clinton moved their family to Salt Lake City. Clinton worked many different jobs to support his family including; construction work, remodeling a train station, building motor homes, managing janitorial staff, and finally working as a truck driver.
They eventually settled in Payson, Utah for his work and stayed until their children were grown. In 1990, Clinton and Thelma fulfilled their wish to serve a mission together for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They were called to Paris, France and fell in love with the people they got to serve there.
Shortly after their mission, Clinton and Thelma decided to return home to Glennwood Canada. Clinton built their home and they were able to move in in 1996.
Clinton and Thelma served in their church and community for many years, including working in the Cardston Alberta Temple. They are often remembered in their community for their kindness and service.
Thelma became ill with lung cancer in 2006. Dad helped to care for her and take her to a big family reunion in the summer of 2009 so they could see of their posterity before she passed away on November 26, 2009.
Despite this loss, Clinton continued to serve in his church and community, always sharing the love of God with others. He often travelled during the following years to visit his posterity. He never missed out on weddings, mission farewells, or other life events for his children or grandchildren.
In 2018 his son and daughter-in-law moved to Canada to help care for him. Though even then in his 90’s he was still working in the garden everyday and serving those around him.
In 2023, after a year recovery from a fall and broken hip at his daughter’s house and another long trip to visit family, Clinton’s days of travel were over. He spent the next three years at home until another fall took him to the hospital on Saturday night, and he passed peacefully two days later.
Clinton was proceeded in death by his parents, Richard and Sarah Law, his wife, Thelma Law, his daughter, Angela Law, his brothers, Joseph Franklin, Edwin Curtis (Ted), William (Keith), Daniel Jordan, Ephriam (Allen), his sister Adeline Hansen, and 3 grandchildren.
He is survived by Son, Steven Kent Law (wife: Edith), daughters, Vondell Clayton (husband: Tom), Margaret Anne Aubrey (husband: Arlen), Teresa Lynn Hancock (husband: Aaron), Betty-Jean (husband: Glen) Anita Colleen Griffin (husband: Scott) and 47 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may meet the family on Friday, June 26th, from 7:00 - 8:00 pm at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston, or at the Church on Saturday from 10:00 - 10:45 am, prior to the service. The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Glenwood, Alberta on Saturday, June 27th, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in the Glenwood Cemetery.
