EDWIN WALTON LAWLOR, passed away on December 5, 2020 in Raymond,AB after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.
Edwin was born in Lethbridge AB, on November 1, 1940 to James Edward and Rhea (Walton) Lawlor. He grew up on a farm near Picture Butte until his family moved to Calgary in 1955, and later to British Columbia where he met his sweetheart, Lois Donalda Preete. They were married in the Cardston Alberta Temple on November 12, 1959. Over the next ten years, six daughters Lori, Karen, Deanne, Sharee, Trina, and Charmaine were born to them and welcomed lovingly into their home. Their home was always open and many others lived with them for a time, but three claimed them as their own: nephew Dale Hatch and nieces Roxanne/Jodi and Rhonda Prete.
Ed loved to dance. He and Lois danced in many festivals and celebrations including the Spokane World Fair. He enjoyed waterskiing and playing horseshoes and darts. He was always up for a good game of Rook or any other game the family suggested. His infectious laugh was always one of the family’s favourite sounds. He loved being in the outdoors, going on walks (often hand in hand with Lois), and travelling to many distant places with family or friends. He always appreciated Heavenly Father’s magnificent creations. Throughout his life he had the talent of being able to fix anything, and carpentry became one of his many talents. He has built and renovated many homes including their current home.
Ed was a salesman, carpenter, and a business owner where he worked with his wife for fifteen years. He provided for his family, but his first love and biggest joy was HIS FAMILY.
He was a faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many capacities. Ed and Lois loved the temple and served faithfully for many years. In 2002 they served their first mission in Suva, Fiji, followed by four more missions: West Virginia from 2006-2007, Lethbridge Bishop’s Storehouse 2008-2009, Suva ,Fiji Temple 2011-2012, and Magrath Stake Campground 2014- 2016. They loved their missions and the people they served. Those people have also become family to them.
Ed lived a full life where he spent his time working, serving others, enjoying family events and activities, and being a genuine friend to all. . He will be greatly missed by his loving wife Lois of 61 years, daughters Lori (Dean) Blackburn of Springville, Utah; Karen (Doug) Stanley of St. George, Utah; Deanne (Rob) Gough, Sharee (Rob) Jones, and Trina (Brad) Olson all of Magrath, Alberta; and Charmaine (Troy) Michelson of Calgary, Alberta; Dale (Deedan) Hatch; Jodi Prete; Rhonda (Vicki) Prete; 29 grandchildren and their spouses and 42 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Dale (Cavell) Lawlor, Russell (Cleo) Lawlor, Glen (Maria) Lawlor, Blaine (Janice) Lawlor, and Norman (Bev) Lawlor; sisters Dawna Lawlor and Shirley (Nick) Iamartino; brother-in-law Frank Preete; and sisters-in-law Sharon Lawlor, and Evelyn Mattie. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Mel Lawlor, and his granddaughter, Danae Gough.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Bourne and all the doctors and staff for their loving care and support at the Raymond Hospital, Jack Ady Cancer Centre, Magrath Home-care and Lethbridge Regional Hospital.
