LARRY LIVINGSTONE
January 2, 1945 - February 28, 2026
January 2, 1945 - February 28, 2026
Larry Livingstone, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, February 28, 2026, following a brief bout with cancer. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, LaVerle, and 9 children: Steven (Leanne), Kevin (Tamara), Cory (Kristi), Kaylani (Perry) Stothart, Jason (Joanne), Jeff (Amy), Shari (Chad) Romeril, Devonee (Mark) Thompson and Brian (Jessica). His legacy lives on through his 44 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Karen (Ken) Pirie, and his brother, Theron (Betty) Livingstone. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Clara Livingstone; an infant son, Kyle; and his grandson, Jeremy Rondeau.
Early Life and Faith
Born in 1945, Larry was the eldest of three children raised in Cardston, Alberta. In his youth, he spent seven summers as a tour boat operator in Waterton Park—a job he held from the age of 14 until he was 21. While in high school, Larry began dating LaVerle. Though not yet a member of her faith, he graduated from seminary his senior year and was invited to speak at the seminary graduation. He later joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and remained “True to the Faith” for the rest of his life. Larry served in every capacity asked of him including assignments like Nursery leader, Scout leader, bishop and high councilor…with his favorite assignment being a Sunday School teacher. He lived by his father’s motto: “If you aren’t at least 15 minutes early, you’re already late.” Following his retirement, he and LaVerle dedicated 15 years to serving in the Cardston Temple together nearly every Tuesday.
A Career of Service
Larry and LaVerle began their married life in Bozeman, Montana. Though Larry started out studying chemical engineering, life led him to a career in education. He graduated from BYU in Provo, Utah, and spent the next 39 years as a dedicated educator. His teaching journey took him through Youngstown (twice), Del Bonita, Enchant, Bow Island, and finally Stirling, where he spent 17 years before retiring in 2007. Larry managed his classrooms the same way he presided over his family: with fairness, genuine concern, and a legendary stern look when necessary. Of his nearly four decades in the classroom, Larry remarked that they were all good years—except for one.
Interests and Character
Larry was a man of many interests, though his children still find it hard to believe he once owned a bowling ball and played in a league. He enjoyed all kinds of books, including Louis L’Amour westerns -one of which he was caught reading while LaVerle was in labor with one of the older children - and Robert Jordan’s fantasy novels. For all of his retirement years and a couple before that, Larry enjoyed walking together many miles around the village and the golf course with Fred Romeril. He loved to study the gospel and had a large collection of books and could be found most days in their office with multiple books open for reference. Above all, Larry’s life was defined by two things: his unwavering testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and his devotion to his eternal companion LaVerle, who he always treated as a queen.
