LINDA JEANNE LOOSE
March 26, 1948 - February 25, 2025
March 26, 1948 - February 25, 2025

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Linda Jeanne Loose (nee Garner), who passed away peacefully in Lethbridge, Alberta on February 25, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. She is survived by her children, Laura Chipman (Hollick), Michael Loose, Marianne Loose, and her grandchildren Grace and Holt Chipman. She is predeceased by her husband Courtney Loose, their son Jimmy, her parents Lyman and Beth Garner and her siblings.
Linda was born in Cardston, Alberta on March 26, 1948, and grew up on the Garner Family Ranch in Hill Spring, Alberta. At the age of seven she developed rheumatic fever which caused her to have many health problems as a youth. As a result, she was unable to participate in a lot of physical activities and games that her friends were involved in so instead turned her attention to music. Speaking of her illness in her youth she said, “I firmly believe to this day that the Lord blessed me with the gift of music, which has filled my life with great blessings.”
Music was her passion. She started playing piano as a child, joined a musical trio group at 11 years old, started teaching piano by the age of 15 and bought her very own piano at the age of 16. This love of music and the desire to share her passion led her to teach piano to hundreds of students from all over Southern Alberta until her early 70’s. As a young adult, Linda found herself working and going to school in Lethbridge. It was here that she met a young man named Courtney Loose, who had a habit of asking her out. She had a habit of turning him down due to her busy schedule. It wasn’t until Courtney formulated a plan of asking her to accompany him on the piano while he sang for a ward musical number that she “fell in love with his voice and later him.” This started a relationship built on love and music. They married in 1968 and eventually settled in Glenwood, Alberta where they built a life and raised their family. Linda and Courtney found joy performing together in many capacities including community theatre, weddings, funerals, groups like the Loochels and the Loose-Clark Connection, along with many other community events. Linda spent many years as the musical director at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Waterton, where she was able to perform on an almost daily basis. Linda benefited from many amazing piano teachers who helped her work towards, and complete, her ARCT music degree. She received first class honours and was awarded with the ARCT Silver Medal. Throughout her life she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities in her local wards and stakes. She found many blessings in her callings, including ward and stake organist, choir accompanist, music director and several others. One of her greatest memories was when she was provided with the opportunity of participating with the temple choir as organist for the Cardston Temple rededication in 1991. Another cherished memory of hers was when she was given the opportunity to play the chapel organ in the Salt Lake City Temple during a session.
Above her love for music was her love for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her. She was a great mother who filled her home with not only music, but with love, fun and a feeling of safety. We have lost our favourite Rook partner. We love you, Mum!
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glenwood on Saturday, March 8th at 11:00 am. There will not be a viewing or meet the family prior to the service, however all guests are welcome to join us back at the church after the interment for some of our mothers’ favorite treats. We would love to visit and share memories with you then.
“I feel that the Lord has blessed me with a special talent in music and I have tried to share that talent as much as I can. I feel that I get more enjoyment from my music than anyone. While I’m playing the piano or organ, I can feel the spirit of my Heavenly Father and it is at this time that I feel the most peace.” Linda
