June 26, 1931 - July 10, 2024

We are saddened to announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather, GORDON RAE LYBBERT, who passed away peacefully in Cardston, Alberta on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024, at the age of 93. He will always be remembered as an incredibly kind, loving, and considerate man, who was a friend to all. He had a special gift of being able to see the potential in a horse and then to work with them to bring out their best.
Gordon was born in Cardston, Alberta on June 26th, 1931. He spent most of his childhood working on the family’s ranches in the Cherry Grove, Alberta area with his seven brothers. As the second oldest, Gordon grew up fast, shouldering responsibilities as a boy that many adults today would have difficulty with. At a young age Gordon learned to ride, rope, train horses, work cattle, drive teams, trail horses, and run a ranch.
On February 19th, 1951, Gordon chose to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years because of his deep and abiding love of God and His son Jesus Christ. He was an incredibly successful missionary, who upon returning home, continued to strive to be an instrument in the Lord’s hands throughout his life.
In 1956 Gordon fell in love with and married Anne Wasylyshyn. Gordon and Anne shared a mutual love of dancing, wildflowers, and nature. They had six children with whom they made many wonderful family memories. Gordon frequently expressed his great love for his family with his oft repeated phrase: “Oh, how I love my family.”
Gordon is survived by his children Derrick Lybbert, Carla Kisslinger, Laurie Russell, Brent Lybbert, and Shannon Robbins, 18 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. He is predeceased by his eternal companion Anne Lybbert, his son Malin Lybbert, his grandson Jason Lybbert, and his great-great grandson Zuri Mondestin.
Friends and relatives will have an opportunity to visit with the family on Friday, July 19th from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston. Gordon’s funeral service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home in Cardston on Saturday, July 20th at 11:00 a.m. Those unable to attend the funeral service in person will be able to watch it live. (A link will be provided here to access the livestream on the service day).
