Anthony (Tony) McStravick, passed away in Calgary on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the age of 82 years.
Tony was born on August 29, 1940 in Belfast, Ireland to Patrick and Bridget McStravick. He was the oldest of 3 children, brother Pat and sister Maureen. Tony’s childhood was difficult but he found joy in boxing in the legacy created by his father and uncles. At the age of 14, Tony met his best friend and future wife Mary McAvoy. At 19, they got married and went on to have 4 children; Margaret, Patrick, David and Michael. After being forced from their home in Ireland they settled in Reddish, England and later in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Despite his limited education, Tony quickly established himself in the security industry. He eventually went on to become the Vice President of one of the largest security companies in Calgary.
Tony also held many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including bishop. He and Mary eventually moved to Cardston, Alberta, until his medical needs brought them back to Calgary. Tony was the proud grandparent of 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
After a hard fought battle with his health, Tony returned to his home in Heaven on the evening of October 9, 2022. He leaves behind a legacy of Irish pride, hard work, perseverance, dedication to family, faith and a cheerful countenance.
A Funeral Service will be held at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Cardston Cemetery.
