Buddy Mistaken Chief, passed away suddenly on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta. Buddy is survived by his father, Duane Mistaken Chief, siblings, Lacey Mistaken Chief (Kenny), Darren Mistaken Chief, Duane Jr. Mistaken Chief, Austin Fox (Malayah), Jaklyn Mistaken Chief, Dallas Mistaken Chief, Grandmother Teresa Mistaken Chief and numerous uncles and aunties to be named.
Buddy took all his cousins as brothers and sisters, but had a very close relationship with Samara Chief Moon, Tyler Knowlton, Mackenzie Mistaken Chief, Darcy Mistaken Chief, Vernon Jr Chief Moon, Marilee Mistaken Chief, Dawn Adamson , Jeff Adamson, Brett Black Plume, Martin Roundstone, Gates Williams, Ricky Vare, Colin Vare, Kelly Vare, Dusty Vare, David Mistaken Chief, Marvin Lee Mistaken Chief, Jimmy Mistaken Chief, and Myria Mistaken Chief.
Buddy was predeceased by his mother Debra Jean Black Plume; grandfather, Samuel Black Plume Jr., and Phillip Mistaken Chief; grandmother, Lucy Strangling Wolf; uncles Bud & Melvin Black Plume, and William Mistaken Chief, Aunties; Brenda Mistake Chief, and Sharon Mistaken Chief; cousins, Noel Chief Moon, Lenny Mistaken Chief, Darcy Mistaken Chief, P.J. Mistaken Chief, Shelby Mistaken Chief, and Phillip Mistaken Chief
Buddy was born to Duane Mistaken Chief and Debra Mistaken Chief on March 3, 1980, at the Cardston Hospital in Alberta. Buddy attended grade school (1-12) in Cardston. Post-secondary accomplishments include the University of Calgary (Psychology), the University of British Columbia (School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture), Hochschule Campus Wien (Major: Modern Languages, French and German), the University of Lethbridge (Neurosciences), and Lethbridge Polytechnic (Chemical Engineering). Buddy had a love for education and always aimed to become a specialized Doctor.
Buddy was a social butterfly growing up and had many accomplishments. Buddy’s interests and hobbies included: helping others, including the homeless; Art & Fashion; Architecture; Music; Dancing; Cooking and Baking; Reading Books; pets and animals; swimming; and had a creative mind and imagination.
Buddy worked various careers and jobs; to highlight a few, he worked for Club Monaco, The Gap, Woods Home Calgary, St. Paul’s Treatment Centre, Kainaiwa Children Services, Prince of Whales Hotel Waterton, Calgary International Airport (VIP Screening Officer), and Austria Teacher of Our Culture.
Buddy always wanted to be a world traveller; he travelled to places like Europe, Austria, the United States, and across Canada. He still had many destinations in the world on his bucket list.
The family would like to apologize if they missed anyone; Buddy had a huge family and a huge circle of friends, and he loved and cared for so many people. Buddy was an altruist, an unselfish person whose actions showed concern for the welfare of others and who expected nothing in return. He will be missed at home and certainly in the City of Calgary. A caring son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend, he will be forever!
A wake service will be at Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve, Alberta on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 6:00 - 11:00 pm. The Funeral service will also be held at Senator Gladstone Hall on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 11:00 am. There will be no interment, as his final wish was to be cremated. A feast will follow immediately after the funeral services.
