MARY MARGE (MOUSIR) MOONEY, 88. Passed away on Dec 5, 2025. Formerly of Cardston, AB.
Our sweet Mum passed away peacefully at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge, AB.
Always a nurse loving, caring and helpful.
Mum was the eldest of nine children to Tony Mousir and Dolora Belle(Obray) Mousir. She was their Christmas present as she was born December 24, 1936 in Cardston. Mum is survived by her children Kevin(Susanne), Bradford(Kathy), Alana Anderson(Craig). Her grandson Kas(Crystal) and her great grandchildren Nixon and Kai. Her sisters Sherry Jurykovsky, Judy Roberts and Diana Bossley. Two sisters in law Wendy Mousir and Margaret Mousir. As well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents. Her sister Rita Thachuck. Her brothers Tony Leroy as an infant. Tony Kay, Philip and Loyd. Her brothers in law Edward Jurykovsky, Norman Bossley and Harry Thachuk.
Mum was proud to be born into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. When she couldn't attend church while working she would take in the service they held in the Long Term Care area of the hospital.
In 1955 mum enrolled in the Certified Nursing Aide school at SAIT in Calgary. Upon graduation in January of 1956 she started her career at the Cardston Hospital. Loved being a nurse. RNA, LPN. She retired September 2002.
I will always love hearing people tell me about having mum as their nurse. How she took care of them and that she was the best and most attentive person to them.
Mum was always kind and helpful to anyone she met. Loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and her nieces and nephews. Always wanted to hear about what they were doing and that they were happy and healthy.
Mum had a great love for airplanes. When she was in her early 20s she was driving into Lethbridge to take flying lessons. She wanted her pilot's licence but didn't finish her required flight time she needed. Things changed. When ever she could she would attend the air show in Lethbridge and Cardston when they would be held. If an airplane flew over head when she was outside she would make a point of stopping and watch it until it faded away into the distance.
Mum loved living near the mountains. Fond memories of going to Waterton when she was growing up. She carried that into her later life. She said it was her favorite place. When ever she could would go there for the day.
She was an avid gardener. Had lovely flowerbeds and pots lining her front door steps. And a large vegetable garden. She always looked forward to large family get togethers at the house. She would cook and enjoy all the chaos of everyone being there. She enjoyed the laughter and love that was brought with it.
When I moved mum to Coalhurst to live with me she was thankful she could still see the mountains. Old Chief Mountain always being a symbol of home for her. She could still see it on a clear day.
When mum's health started to decline, she moved into a care home. She lived there for 2 ½ years. My brothers and I would like to thank everyone at St. Therese Villa. You have gone above and beyond caring for our mum. A special Thank you to all the HCAs and LPNs who worked in the Dementia Cottage One North. Along with the serving staff and cleaning staff. They all grew to love mum. Always being loving, kind and caring towards her. An enormous Thank you to the recreation staff. They were are all angels to mum. A special Thank you to mum's main Rec girl Domnica. You are a special person. And will always hold a place in our hearts.
We will be having a private family graveside service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
