Charlie Olson Murray
July 30, 1938 – April 14, 2025
Charlie Olson Murray passed away peacefully on Monday morning, April 14, 2025, at the Cardston Hospital. He was 86 years old.
He is survived by his brother, Bill (Tess) Murray of Bennett, Colorado.
Charlie will be laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery, beside Nora Eliza Bevans Murray whom he married on June 18, 1960.
He was born on July 30, 1938, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, to William Murray and Bernice Olson Murray. When he was five, the family moved to a different ranch in Pincher Creek, where his lifelong love for ranching began. There they began their family where they welcomed the first four of their five children at the hospital Nora worked at as a nurse.
They lived in Pincher Creek until 1973, when they relocated to a ranch in Fort Macleod and welcomed their youngest child. In 1978, they made their final move to Mountain View, settling on the ranch where Charlie would spend the rest of his life and watch their family grow.
He was born a rancher and remained one until his passing. He loved being around cattle and horses, and his children and grandchildren consider him a true Cowboy. He lost his beloved Nora on October 28, 1993.
He is survived by their children: Sharilee (Greg) Furrows of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Brennen (Kimberly) Murray of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Justin Murray of Etobicoke, Ontario; and Suzanne (Byron) Pierson of Mountain View. He was predeceased by their son, Rockwell Murray. Charlie and Nora have 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
On November 26, 1994, Charlie married “Dixie” Glenda Darlene Wilson Beaton Murray. Together, they enjoyed traveling, hosting family and neighbor gatherings, and served two full-time missions—one in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission and the other in the Illinois Nauvoo Mission. Dixie passed away on September 21, 2017.
Charlie also lovingly embraced Dixie’s five children: Niki (Dave) Wright of Magrath; Coy (Carolyn) Beaton of Calgary; Bernie (Mish) Rose of Calgary; Cali (Chris) Pieroway of Calgary; and Neeley Beaton of Calgary. Dixie has eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Charlie was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings as a bishop, counselor, and temple ordinance worker at the Cardston Alberta Temple.
Charlie was active in scouting and was a member of the Mountain View Irrigation District.
He was a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and husband who will be greatly missed. His legacy of faith, family, hard work, and love for the land will live on in all who knew and loved him.
