VALENA GAY OLSEN NEILSON, was born Jan 21, 1957 and passed away on Oct 18, 2022 @ Lethbridge Alberta.
She fought a brave fight with Acute Myeloid Lukemia from February 2021. She had a bone marrow transplant on July 21, 2021 and was doing well until Graft vs Host Disease set in. This sparked many complications and things progressed quickly from there.
She leaves behind her loving husband Kelly Thane Neilson; Children- Karen (Mike) Raymer; Tammy (Brad) Sommerfeldt - Katie Dayna Jorgie Zane; Tav (Kari) Neilson- Makai, Krew, Dodger, Goldie; Clay (Kennedy) Neilson- Walker, Dusty, Duke, Kansas.
She is pre-deceased by her mom Anna Louise Olsen and brother Demehl Olsen.
She is survived by her dad Loye Olsen, Bob (Valerie) Olsen, Deana Wynder, Danny Olsen, Wes (Nardene) Neilson, Nola Neilson, Greg (SueEllen) Neilson, Robert Wynder and 14 nieces and nephews.
Valena (Mom) was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and accepted many service opportunities and selflessly served for many years.
Mom loved the Temple and genealogy work and went weekly after work before coming home.
Mom loved to take pictures of everything and loved to ride horses, sew, quilt, bake brownies, picnic, and spend time with family - she would ask us "What are my three favorite words?" We'd get creative but we knew she expected and understood it was "I LOVE YOU!"
She worked at Temple City Drugs, at the Cardston Hospital, as a flag woman, at Caribou Clothes, Prince of Wales Hotel, the Royal Bank and as a Loving Mother and Homemaker. Her family was her greatest lifes work and she's not done teaching us yet!!
She will be dearly remembered and deeply missed!!
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a foundation of your choice.
Thank you for the love and support
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 29th, at 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mountain View, Alberta, with Bishop Jason West officiating. Friends may meet the family at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the service.
