GARTH L. NELSON, passed away peacefully in Cardston of Friday, Oct. 8, 2021 at the age of 90
Born in Cardston, AB, he lived his entire life in Mt. View.
As a young man, Garth married Rissa Mae Jensen and was married to her for 69 years. Together they raised 7 children and managed the family ranch. Garth drove school bus for 40 something years in Mt. View. He was a life long and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked as a temple worker for 23 years in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Garth was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed riding into the mountains in pursuit of his prey. Garth loved the beautiful mountains that he grew up in and loved hauling the fifth wheel and camping with his wife. He also enjoyed taking cruises with his dear wife in different areas of the world. Garth loved to sing and always loved to dance with his dear wife. He enjoyed playing cards with her as well, Rook being his favourite. He served faithfully in the church. He was a loving and loyal husband, a dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather, great great grandfather and uncle.
He is survived by his wife, Rissa Mae Jensen; his children, Randy (Lynn) Nelson, Wendy (Tom) Nish, Kevin (Joann) Nelson, Colin (Terri) Nelson, Shannon (Rhod) Greenhalgh, Jo-Anne (Brent) Malmberg and Sandra (Rob) McMurray. He had 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. He is predeceased by his father, Nels Nelson Sr.; Mother, Alice Laycock Nelson; and his brother, Nels Nelson Jr..
Friends may meet the family on Monday, October 18th, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston. A Private Family Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mountain View, Alberta on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery.
