It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of EDWARD NOEL (NOADE) SOOP Jr. - “Aakaitsimatsima” after a short illness at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, AB on March 9th, 2017. Eddy Jr. was born at the old Blood Indian Hospital on May 21st, 1938 to the late Eddy Soop Sr. and the late Julia Holy Singer.
As an infant, he was raised in the Bull Horn area where his paternal grandparents, Dick and Beth Soop resided. Later a young boy, he moved to the Levern area where his maternal grandparents, Victor and Mary Chief Moon, helped raise him along with his father Eddy Sr. and stepmother Annie Devine. Eddy Jr. received his education at the St. Paul’s Residential School on the Blood Reserve. He was an excellent athlete. While in school, he excelled in sports. He was honored in Boxing with the Golden Boy category. He also played hockey on the reserve and won the Tom Long Boat trophy for Track and Field. He joined the Cowboys and competed and won in the sport of Rodeo. His dad, Eddy Sr., was his mentor and he did very well riding the Bulls, being a Calf Roper and a Bull Rider. Later on in his life, he took up golfing and won many events in Calgary, AB. Eddy Jr. returned to his native traditional way of life and joined the ceremonies. Eddy Jr. was a very compassionate individual and helped many a person in need - never accepting anything in return. He was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
He is survived by his loving wife Delores of 56 years - they lived in Calgary; son Tommy (Patricia) Soop; daughters - Charlotte Christensen, Terry Christensen (Kevin), Michele (Brent) McFadden; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren whom he loved very much; adopted son Danny Rogers; brother Dennis (Mavis) Chief Moon; sisters - Lorna (Tony) Black Water, Patricia Mooney, Shirley Morgan; aunts - Mabel (Richard) Fox, Mary Pace, Phyllis Fox-Holy Singer, Linda Bruised Head, and Claudia Sugai.
Edward was predeceased by his parents - Eddie Soop Sr. and Julia (Holy Singer) Morgan; brother Louis (Sonny) Soup; daughter Albertine David-Yellow Horn; grandparents Dick & Beth Soop and Victor & Mary Chief Moon; aunts: Margaret & Albert Many Fingers, Gwen & David Healy, Beatrice & Frank Good Striker, Jean & Harold Healy, Helen Rogers, Mona (Willie Plain Woman) Chief Moon, Ella & Bernard Shot Both Sides, Rose and Moyra Chief Moon; uncles Tom Holy Singer, Leo Chief Moon, Art and Josephine, Frances, Tommy and Clarence Soop.
The family thanks Units 82 & 83 of the Rockyview Hospital for the comfort and care of their Dad and Husband.
A Family Service will be at Legacy Funeral Home, Cardston on Thurs., March 16th at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at the Senator Gladstone Hall, Blood Reserve from 7:00 -11:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be at the Senator Gladstone Hall on Friday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
