Edna Coleen Osborne
February 26, 1932 – March 11, 2025
Edna “Coleen” Osborne (née Smith) passed away on March 11, 2025, in Kamloops, BC, with her eldest son Monty and his wife Cathy by her side at the age of 93.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Monty Nelson (Cathy) of Kamloops, BC, Kevin Osborne (Jenni) of Moses Lake, WA, and Darryl Osborne (Lisa) of St. George, UT. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Earl Nelson, and their children Robert Douglas Nelson and Roberta “Bobbie” Colleen Nelson; her husband, Ronald Douglas Osborne; and her grandson Mathew Dean Nelson. Coleen is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Ryan Nelson (Jamie), Jeffrey Nelson (Chanel), Kenneth Osborne (Rachel), Jana Hansen (Chris), Elle Ewell (Austin), Breckin Osborne (Lauren), and Kennedy Osborne; and nine great-grandchildren: James, Austin, Mason, Corbin, Cadence (Sadie), Blake, Zoe, Zane, and Canyon.
Coleen was born in Cardston, Alberta, and raised in Aetna, Alberta, surrounded by a large loving family of nine older siblings—six sisters and three brothers. In her early years, Coleen met Robert, and their love brought forth two beautiful children, Monty and Bobbie. After Robert’s untimely passing, she faced the challenges of widowhood with great strength, raising her young children alone in Calgary. Through her resilience, she met Ron, and together they welcomed Kevin and Darryl, creating a loving and supportive family that would endure for generations. Coleen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many callings, including two missions with Ron—one to Canada Toronto West and another to Salt Lake Temple Square. Her greatest legacy was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to an eternal family. While Coleen was a sister, cousin, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother to many, they all felt like they were her favorite—that’s how she made everyone feel. She always had a smile to share with others, and she received many in return, even after her stroke in 2020, which eventually led to her stay at the Kamloops Seniors Village.
We are grateful for the kind and caring staff, nurses, and special caregivers of the Kamloops Seniors Village, who cared for her during the last few years of her life.
A Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints South Hill Chapel at 950 Main Street, Cardston, Alberta on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM. A visitation will take place from 12:00 until 12:45 PM prior to the service at the Church. A graveside service at the Cardston Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
